Help needed on producing a Detroit like string/pad sound.

Im relatively new to producing and synthesis but im guessing this sound shouldnt be too difficult to replicate and is quite a common yet effective sound heard in tech house and techno. It can first be heard at 3:20 as the track kicks back in after the break and then the chord (i think, or is it just a single note?) seems to change at 3:36. The track is ''Gavin Herlihy - Back Burner.''

Another example can be heard on Dennis Ferrer - Hey Hey (Dub Mix) at 4:24 but this one just seems to have a constant rise in pitch.

Any help is appreciated!

Its good to see someone asking a question who doesnt' listen to cheesy trance:p

I think its just a string patch though to be honest. Could be one of these or something similar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amYy...feature=related in which case he probably sampled it from a disco record.

I'd think saw waves and phasers would be the key to that sound if you were doing it on a synth.

I gave up the trance many years ago - its gone far too commercial sounding for my liking.

Thank you for the advice mate, ive been messing on with some saw waves and im heading in the right direction....... slowly - i didnt think about adding some phaser effects on the sound but ill give it a try.

You dont use Sylenth by any chance do you?
MrJiveBoJingles
I agree with Kit, sounds like one of those classic "string machine" synths.

Sounds like some filtered saws with subtle LFOs

Do you mean to modulate the filters cut off frequency? What waveform would you suggest for modulation?
sonicboom
always random waveform on LFOs!!!!! my best advice of the day.

Man I was so happy to finally find the tune, i made you the preset. that white noise perc thing at the start is just soooooo amazing !!
Here you go man --> http://www.sendspace.com/file/ahz6cz

Its for sylenth1.

If you want to know how to make it: Its basically 1 saw osc thats detuned and you have to lower the stereo value knob on sylenth(on the osc) the more you reduce it the retro-er it sounds. I also added an lfo with a random waveform assigned to the pitch but its very subtle and optional. (just noticed you mentionned it sonicboom, its awesome eh, makes your synth sound all analog and sidechainy n stuff :D ) and of course the reverb and eq is up to you, just added them because i thought it made it sound better.

Hope this helps a bit !
