Haha you're an ass. I don't think I used any z3tas for that.
That was one of the last times I finished a track like 4 years ago I think.
You can clearly see why I stopped finishing work, its horrific.

But my sound and style has actually improved A LOT since those vids. Not to mention the clipping which is horrendous.

I got into "tritonics" FM* tutorial vids on youtube as he seems to be the most advanced and I was hearing some sounds that appealed to me in his vids.
Then I also downloaded a 13,000 preset pack for FM8. I'm going to go through them tonight and see if theres any interesting FM sounds I can use as a base to build from. I won't be able to replicate that sound but I've had enough of not knowing how to make the sounds I like, so I'm going to learn one way or another how to make these edgy distorted sounds.

Well I saw it when I was looking for FM8 tuts on youtube and had typed "FM8 tutorial" then saw it on the right side. Theres actually 2 users advertising the same 13,000 preset pack.
Then they will have a link under the vid to dl the pack.

I just DL'd it but since I just started using FM8 don't know how to import them. I used the "import" function right on the GUI but for some reason its not showing any patches, not sure why. So if you get it to work let me know.

Otherwise for 3 hours now I've been watching FM8 tuts on FM synthesis. This is exactly what I needed. The matrix in FM8 makes a crapload more sense than the matrix in sytrus. I just like the entire GUI a lot better. And I'm already making some pretty edgy FM drone/basses by just modulating sine waves and detuning them a bit. I can't imagine what kind of sounds I can get once I actually dive into the waveforms. I'm still not close to the timbre of the sound I posted but I'm getting some pretty cool results regardless. FM is the !

edit: Ok duh just figured it out trying to save my first preset. You don't use the import function you just use the file drop down on top then go to "open sound". Simple enough.

edit#2: ok none of the files on youtube were working but this one is the actual 13,000 presets.

13,000 FM8 Presets
btw the Adam Van Baker Bass Bank is ridiculous. This is the most presets I've ever seen in my life on a synth.

Hey Robby,

Sorry for out of topic respond but I had to comment on this 4 yrs old production of yours --> It was (as for your early or beginning production life) an impressive piece of music with some nice blend of different genres, not bad at all my friend!!

Cheers,

Darek

Ohhhhh nnoo!!! Best day of my life by far! He sent the FLP with the bass in it and everything. Also talked about what his thought process was when making the bass. I knew something weird was going on this is NOT a sync it was made on sytrus and in a way I would have never guessed in my life.

I'm going to come back to update after I study the bass in Fruity just so people understand the logic of how its made. I've never been so ing happy in my life. Gay I know but the late response caught me by suprise.
Looney4Clooney
You could make it many ways. I would have used a sync'd oscillator. You could also use an fm synth. Or just normal subtractive with noise oscillators

robby i laugh of every single post you make. thanks for making my day, the same way that dude made your day. thank you. how many years have you been trying to make that baseline tutorial again?:stongue:

ps. let me know if you are sick of the mockery :p

Care to share? not to advocate tossing around his own work but I rather like that bass's sound

also all of you guys talking about how simple it'd be to make a bass like this, can someone actually go ahead and do it, and then post the example here? and then maybe give more than a brief, one-line description of how they managed to do it? I've been trying for quite a while and Robbie's been at it for 4 years, what the hell are we missing? everyone makes it seem so easy.

edit2: that kind of sounded like I want you guys to do the work for me/us, that's not really what I was going for, just thought I'd toss that out there before someone jumps on me
DJ Robby Rox
Yeh thats how they did it just modulating sines in the matrix and the one carrier sine has added harmonics to it.

I'm actually suprised how simple the ing thing is lol, a bit depressed really. I know I've heard this sound before too he saved it as "tyas bass" but it sounds like an old harpsichord preset with distortion.
In fact, playing the notes on my keyboard, I would have NEVER chose to mix that sound as a bass. It sounds like a harpsichord the second you take distortion off it. And he did some pretty odd things I've never seen before. Like the use of distortion after delay, it creates a very weird forced and unnatural type of delay.

Either way I want to try reprogramming different patches from what he made now. Its really all about the timbres and they are in your face like no sound I've heard before, so I guess it doesn't matter what the sound actually is as long as it works.
