There is a difference between promoting and saying - hey friends I have accomplished a life long dream.
Making a thread about your FIRST track is not much different than making a thread annoucing your first baby
We all love to share and hear about each others personal successes.
Making a thread for every new release would be a totally different thing |

^^ this and think of it this way. If a friend starts selling TVs and gives you a pitch one day when you're having a beer you'll probly hear him out, maybe buy a TV if you need one, say no thanks politely if you don't, give him pointers etc. Now if some guy you've never seen before shows up at your door one day or cold calls you trying to sell a TV, you'll probly be a lot ruder and slam the door or hang up the phone.
Friends and acquaintances can do certain things that strangers can't. The friend is talking with you on the basis of communicating and the stranger is talking with you based 100% on selling something. Not a new concept I don't know why it's a real shocker like you make it out to be. |

You need a hug.
First of all, nobody is crying in here. I was making a simple point on how we can be a bit more consistent on this board. I did not attack, make fun, or say anything negative about anyone, so you really should clean your mouth.
Hypocrisy is the worst thing for a community like this. Everyone in this damn scene is in it for the same reason aren't they? For the music. So if the regulars bash newbies and tell them to go f themselves when they promote their music on here, but then the regulars go back and do it because they feel privileged, how healthy is that?
That's why there's rules and guidelines, there shouldn't be special passes, otherwise, you need to throw those out the window, cause they become void. Unless there's a fine print somewhere that says regulars and popular people can do whatever the hell they want on here that I missed.
Like I said from the beginning, I don't give two s if people promote their music on here, isn't this a music forum after all?
All I was asking for is some consistency in the way it is done.
So instead of telling me to off, maybe you should be a bit more classy and put some thought into your posts, cause clearly, you never understood the point of this thread and started getting defensive.
Hence why my point, and the points that some others touched on here was made when you wrote your first response. |

there is a difference between someone signing up solely to promote their and spam versus someone who has been on this board participating consistently for 10 years. Not only that but if you didn't know a lot of us actually know each other well on here and have been friends for many years. |

a) life is all about hypocrisy, rules being broken, and special passes. If you want to get a head in life you better how to take advantage of it._
If you expecting an Internet forum to be more 'moral' than governments, businesses, or any other group of people... You are expecting too much
b) I am actually against people promoting themselves in this subsection of the forum. We have proper channels for that. But Jons thread (cause let's face it, while you tried to remain tactful and not mention names, it was pretty obvious) was not just about promoting himself (see my other post)
It's no different than how someone would get 'scolded' for posting an event (not in the event forum) but if Funkycrew made a post saying "after
all these years I've finally decided to start my own 'heart hands in the air trance promotion group' and I'm throwing my first event. I'm so excited and I would really appreciate the communitys support" it would be 100% accepted
Or how Margs threads for dance with Jenna were supported by this community._
There is a HUGE difference between spam/self promotion and sharing with this community. Despite the hate and drama we are all pretty a pretty close knit group. _So yeah, if a person made effort to contribute to this community they will get special passes - they have helped made this board a great place
/TA plur lol |

I completely see where you guys are coming from, believe me. I understand that you're all friends and sing kumbaya every weekend, I get it.
Here's my question regarding that. If you're all so close knit and have known each other for years, surely you must be facebook friends? Isn't that a good way to announce your accomplishment to friends? Cause by doing it on here, you're clearly trying to get outsiders to listen.
I obviously also don't condone any retard that registers on here and spams the board with music releases. Regardless of that, guidelines are guidelines. If you can't post music, you can't post music. If you can post music, you can post music. Simple.
Guys, again, I DON'T CARE if people promote music/accomplishments/babies whatever the hell it might be. I was just trying to open a discussion on how things like this can be handled better so there is consistency.
Besides, I quite like Jon's track and think he did a great job, I have nothing against the guy, I don't even know him, he's probably a nice dude since you guys are all his friends and defending him. He just happened to be the guy who posted his music on here that's all. So I questioned it.
How about instead of going back and forth and trying to prove points, we offer some suggestions on how to do things better around here? |

lol 10 years~! straight up, TA is the best way for me to share something w/ my closest friends... I love this board, and I'm a firm believer in keeping it's integrity, music/partying is my life! I tried to be as tactful as possible, and I apologize for those I've offended/annoyed! |

is it that bad? to be honest, I'd rather see more threads about music (albeit if they are about promoting a project they may be working on)... for a while TOTA was like the wild west, it's calmed down a lot now, I kinda miss the madness to be honest :p |
