The kick and bass are sitting a bit loud, particularly in the lower frequencies. Start by turning them down in the mix a little and re-balancing everything so the treble frequencies get a bit more level than the bass frequencies.

The vocal is just not clear enough. It's also sitting a bit low in level, but try lifting it up around 3 kHz to give it presence. That goes for any other synths too, as the mix could sound a lot clearer (particularly the synth at 1:50, on which you may want to pull back the lower mids slightly too). The reverb level on the vocal might also be smudging it a bit.

I don't really like the strings at 2:52 (too out-of-tune for my taste). Also the mids are really starting to clash around 3:30; some more EQ might be required. Particularly that lead synth around 5:00 could get away with less lower mids I think.

The bass synth is really transparent though - you hardly notice it and it really works! Overall I really like it, just needs a bit more EQ in places. Also I'm wondering about the end because you may want to leave a bit more for it to fade out properly.

Id have to disagree with Atlantis on the bass. They sit real well to me, vocals seam really pretty, the pad sounds in the back are really pretty

nice job

As I listen, nice intro build up, very nice vibe, I would place the vocals more to the back, I would add some highs for maybe some more cymbals and I would cut some mids to better fit the vocals. I really like the arrangement, and the general idea. Very nice work! very solid.

Cheers! :) :)

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Helps a lot to have extra pairs of ears. I did keep the strings because it was part of the original track, and I did want to use parts of the original track but I made it less apparent in the mix.

Will spend some more time tomorrow mixing at a proper volume (I don't think the neighbours would appreciate it I cranked it up at this hour) but I'd thought I'd share with you a more recent version

This sounds somewhat better, but still not quite "there yet" to me.

It sounds like the off-beat kick/tom sound gets too much focus now and could be turned down a little.

Hats sound a lot better now, but the treble quickly sounds harsh and brittle, too, though that could be due to SoundCloud also.

The synth at 0:30 could be high-passed slightly further up.

The bass is quite heavy in the sub, but not so much a problem and more a mastering issue.

The vocals sound like they've been boosted too much in that 3 kHz area if that's what you did. Plus I'm not liking the sound at all now, where a different EQ might work better. I also found they sat better when they were more centred as before.

Hats at 3:41 and so forth could still do with more treble boost.

The lead-like synth at 4:50 could do with way more 'bite', or presence in my opinion.

I only listened quickly for now, and a lot of this will be sujective of course. Will give it more listens later and let you know if I think of anything more.

Cheers Atlantis... That's exactly the feedback I needed... I've made some slight mods to it.

I had a bit of a problem with the vocals... The original track was 77 bpm, so doubling the tempo to 154 bpm and stretching the vocals down to 130 bpm required me to do some editing.

It turns out the culprit was really around 4000-5000 hz, and cutting it by about 3 db was helpful from preventing the singer sounding like a teenager instead a grown woman :P

Sounding a lot better again. My only gripes are that you cut away too much of the sub on the bass, and I regret having mentioned it. And the vocal still sounds too upper mid-heavy, and I still can't get around the fact that it's panned to the side. Otherwise it's definitely sounding good. If you want me to have a go at mastering it let me know, as I'd be interested to, even if it's too late for the deadline.

as we discovered in my post im not the most technical guy to help you review but as far as enjoyability I think this track is nice. Lots of cool synths floating around that make it interesting. Everything seems to sound about right to me. cheers for that

really nicely done. i think the low in the vocals were cut a bit too much - but that's the only thing i can really pinpoint. sounds great

It's a really nice track man. The only bit I did not like at all was from about 4.47, the last drop as to me it became a wall of sound and lots the space and energy - but this is just my taste.

Otherwise really good vibe and laid back niceness.
