So im thinking about going to UMF, but an archived thread from 09 had a couple of people who didn't like UMF. Is there anything wrong with UMF that makes it not worth going to and do you think that i should go?
Keep in mind that im under 21, but i only live a few hours away from Miami so traveling isnt really a problem. Im also not going for the after parties, clubbing, alcohol, etc. Im going because i like the music and i like the people that they have performing.
Thanks in advance, and sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum. |

^ don't pay attention to that.... that's more of the pool party scene during WMC.
The UMF nay-sayers usually point out that the festival is largely attended by underage partiers who are not "in tune" with the scene or whatever. Basically, those that have been a few times have just moved on to other parties going on at the same time. Seeing as you are under 21 and enjoy the music, then I'd say you absolutely must go to UMF. It should definitely be experienced at least once by electronic music fans, especially anyone who lives relatively close by.
If you end up going, make sure to hit up the Carl Cox tent while he's on. That's a great experience in itself and was the only reason I attended the festival a few times. It sounds like they may have upgraded it, as well. Also, ASoT 500, while not a great lineup, is a significant event in dance music and it would be cool to say you attended. |

What do you mean they move on to other parties going on at the same time? They leave the main stage to go to other tents, or they leave the event all together and go to another party?
When i go im definitely going to see Carl Cox, Benny Benassi, Tiesto (not that into trace, but it would be cool to say i saw tiesto), Afrojack, Deadmau5, David Guetta, Steve Aoki, and Skrillex.
Also if i go it would be 2012 for 2 reasons. A) I'll be a senior B) 2011 is sold out and im not paying however much they want on ebay. |

| wait wait wait. I just read a few of the other threads on this forum, and is the major complaint about ultra seriously just that it's an all age event? |

you'll be fine, just go. like dpetey says, a major complaint is that you have a lot of younger people that go (some of them not even into the music) simply as an excuse to roll and whatnot. if you're into the music and have no chance into going to the other parties (because of your age) then go to ultra.
there's more threads in the florida section regarding ultra and wmc in general where you can talk to people that frequent more often.
edit: nm, just noticed this was moved to the florida section already |

yes..... you'll understand when you are old like some of us, haha....
that's why I said the people that have gone a few times "move on to other parties", meaning that a lot of people opt for the pool, yacht, and afterhours events instead of Ultra. I personally have no issue with the crowd at festivals, but it does make sense that older partiers might get tired of the massive amount of "kids" (sorry) running around at Ultra. Really though, as petty as it sounds, that is the main concern of most. Another point of contention is that the artists at Ultra usually play short, watered down sets as opposed to the longer and much better club sets.
Once again, I suggest you go and enjoy the hell out of it because it really can be a great time. Also, very curious that you are planning a year in advance.... :conf: If you wanted to go this year, you should be spending your time trying to find somewhat reasonably priced tickets, which I'm sure could be done..... then again, maybe not with the decrease in capacity. |

I guess i can see why people would be upset with the large crowds and the long lines for drinks.
Im planning it a year in advance because that's when I'll be a senior in high school and (this is a bit embarrassing to say) my mom wouldn't let me go in 2011 since im just turning 17. Me going to UMF actually started out as a joke. I was messing around saying "that's where im going for spring break" not expecting her to let me go, but she said i can go when im a senior |
