Harmony Improvisers

Hey guys,

I tried the search function and nothing came up so I figured it'd be alright to make a post about it.

I'm not sure where I read about these but Ive recently become very interested in getting a Harmony Improviser. So which one would you guys recommend (also if you could, what are the pros/cons of the different available one's out there)?

Does anyone here use and have any experience with one? If so what are your thoughts of it?

Thanks, :)
Zlaught

Also on a random side note, are there any other hidden-gem type programs that you guy's use and find handy?

Never heard of one... I sure hope it isn't something that creates lifeless boring melodies for you.

Just grab a MIDI keyboard and learn some pop songs on keyboard and get yourself familiar with playing some basic piano. It's not too hard.

Thanks for the useful reply.

A Harmony Improviser is a program that improvises harmonies for you. I would like to get one to help come up with ideas.

BTW, you can usually figure out what something is by typing it into Google. It's not too hard.

Sorry for sounding harsh, but it's just using one is not going to benefit you in the long run. I think it is ever so important for any producer to learn how to play an instrument and how to 'jam'.

The problem with having a harmonic improviser doing it for you is you might get quick results but you will plateau very quickly. I just think it's money better spent elsewhere.

Are you talking about things like improvisator?

ya, that seemed to be the main one I came across while going through youtube videos, do you happen to know anything about it and how it compares to other improvisers?

I am taking piano lessons soon; However I see a tool such as this to be very useful for spawning new ideas(my intention is not to hear whatever sound it creates and copy it). Also I have no experience in music theory, so something like this to me seems like it would be valuable for helping to create string or piano chords and such.

1)So is Improvisator the one to get if im interested in such a program?

You really should wait until you understand a good bit of theory before using something like this. The only real way to get any use out of real-time chord generators is to understand what those chords are playing, otherwise the only thing you'd be doing is using it as a tool to replace theory instead of in addition to it.

You'll play a chord, not knowing anything about it, and then take wild guesses at the next few chords that may or may not sound good. Either way you won't understand why any of that is happening and you'll wind up just dicking around trying to find a simple progression that might sound nice, without understanding anything about it.

Just don't use them. I have improvisator and I really have no use for it.

I guess I'll have to start learning/reading music theory asap then.

Thanks for the response,
