My first trance track

Hello,

I've recently decided to enter the world of trance music production and this is what I came up with on my first try. I know there's many things to fix with this, however the more feedback I get, the better.

Cheers all. Enjoy.

Looks like everyone is doing the SoundCloud thing. Hope this works...

Good first track mate. It's always hard to feedback to people new to production as of course there is a wall of things to learn, so trying to pinpoint one or two things at this stage is a little tricky, but I guess I'd say at this stage watch out for the 'wall of sound' you (and all other noobs) have going on in the main drop parts.

We all make that mistake - we love each new part we make and want them all to come through, but the aim is to make sure only the most important elements 'dominate'.

Secondly take masses of care over sound selection - people used to say this to me but I never really took it on board as I was like 'wtf, thats obvious', but it's the one thing I should have taken proper note of at the start.

Your clap for example is quite nasty! Don;t worry, as long as you are dedicated, sound selecting gradualy gets better, although in my case it took a long time - like a few years!

Your'e much better than I was though.

Cheers for your insights mate. Will definitely take these into consideration for the future.

Just one question, could you explain a little further by what you mean by having the most important sounds dominate? I read your wall of sound comment and chuckled a little due to how true it was.

Anyways, time to get cracking on something new.

Hope to hear some of your tracks man, learning is always healthy :)

You have to decide what the key most mimportant sounds are and make sure these are the loudest. Take Michael Jacksons Billy Gene - the most dominants are the kick, snare, bass, the string pucks and his voice. So if you were making that track, you'd always keep in mind these 5 key sounds and make sure nothing else crowds them out.

With trance, the mixing side is notoriously difficult because for example the rolling bass covers a wide range of freqs as to pads and leads and claps and hatz. It's about deciding which need to be loudest and being brutal about that choice.

Having said this, the loudest parts can change as a track prgresses - the rolling mid bass could be dominating at the start but in the drop mught need to be faded right back - dont forget to close the filter if it clashes when the leads and claps come in.

As for my sh1t - don't bother, it's not good to learn from people with no talent.

i agree with your entire post except this lol. we're all jaded at this point (even me and i'm new to this), but richard is one of the more consistent of producers around these parts. regardless of whether or not he thinks so lol

haha I figured he was just being modest.

On that note, would you have a link to your/his stuff? I mean, production stuff that is...

I like it, but it seems too safe for me. For a frist track, it's understandable that you stick to riffs that are pretty popular. The clap isn't that much of an issue for me, but I tend to replace my claps by open hithats, sounds better most of the time.
