i hate the fact that he does the closing party on the terrace. ive never been but if i am able to make it for the closing parties id rather experience PVD in amnesia's main room. |

that is what i did the only time i went to Ibiza and honestly it was NOT all that I thought it would be.
I was at the closing party September 24th 2009 (the last time he played a main room closing set). I just did not think it was anything special. I did not hear any of the classics I thought I could hear. There was no special effects or anything added to the club night that made it any more special than another night besides Johnny Mcdaid showing up at the end and singing Vega 4's lyric for time of our live and home.
I have since talked to many people that have seen PVD on multiple occasions at Amnesia and they all agree, go during mid-season. I am trying to go July 27th as of right now but if I doesnt work than August 25th will have to work. |

the terrace is actually a bigger room and has proven to be the most popular room these days, with a brand new dj booth and soundsystem, it rivals the main room! |

Yeh I noticed that when Sasha was playing on the terrace when I was there, If I had my guess pvd would probably play more housey on the terrace which I dont want any part of. Of course trance is still in the sets but still......
Am I wrong (I am basing my opinion off zero facts), has anyone here seen a full terrace set and a main room set to compare the two? |

havent seen pvd on the terrace but he does play more housey, and for the record, he's said it himself a million times... PvD is NOT a trance DJ, he plays electronic (vague but that's what he calls his style) |

apologies for the late 'bump' but im new and..
i went to the cream amnesia closing party last year (2010)
and PVD was headlining the terrace, but when we got there i noticed gareth wyn was playing the main room and not the terrace...
then giuseppe ottaviani played after and towards the end of his set you could see the sound technitian setting up PVD's laptops in the booth then 10 minutes later.. BAM!! PVD main room!
he did play a good amount of classics (from what i can remember):
carlo resoort - 0 class
ruff driverz - dreaming
thrillseekers - synaesthesia
dick van nille - outside
it was a good night, you dont see lasers in amnesia like you used to (my first time was august 2nd 2007) but the atmosphere and crowd was good.
and of course eddie halliwell played after pvd and there was some sort of problem with the first track he played, the music kept skipping and this instantly took his ego away from him, to be honest he didnt look happy at all after that.
I have already bought my tickets for the closing party this year and i just hope they do a last minute change like they did the last closing party, PVD closing the terrace doesnt feel right. |

lucky, when i saw him closing party 2009 there was no real classics played like you heard. I got to hear as the rush comes and time of our lives, hardly anything special like I was hoping for. This year I am doubling it up. I will see him July 21st and July 28th. I hope I hear some classics one of those nights.

I saw him once at Amnesia (main room) back in 2006... he played a 4 hour set because Marco V's plane got delayed (they were both supposed to play). It was pretty good but nothing over the top.
I'm also going to be in Ibiza on the 21st... (getting there on the 20th and attending Markus at Space for the 5 hour set the night before - at least that's the plan at the moment). I was contemplating going to Amnesia on the 21st as well but nothing is set in stone as of right now.
If you're attending the same events, let me know. I've never hung around with another American while in Ibiza before... |

Got back saturday morning after flying out thursday (07 07 2011):
Main room + new sound system = OH MY!!
Eddie halliwell was on first, i got there for about 1:15, he played right through til 2:30, the sound system adapted nice to the music he was playing, everything sounded "Phat."
PvD then started, his set was very energetic to say the least, lots of new music was always interesting, a few classics (greece 2000, beautiful things, into the night and playing for an angel live on the keyboard). There was a new mixer in amnesia next to the CDJs and i know that Van Dyk doesnt use them but for some reason the music cut out half way through beautiful things, it was only a minor error but it was fine for the rest of his set. He finished at 5:30
Next up was Gareth Wyn, I don't know why but i have always liked him as a dj, anyway, he started with a little bit of upbeat house, in this time i walked to the terrace to see if anything interesting was going on in there, i heard boom boom squeek so i walked back out after 5 minutes (cant stand that dutch house sound). On my entrance back into the main room he was playing SVD - Daisy and OH! the music cut out again! silly enough there was no back up mixer so he had to continue. Flaming June, Lethal Industry and Not Going Home followed. He also played one of his own tracks "beautiful" before closing the main room at 6:40, yes.. 6:40, they finished early because they couldnt solve the mixer problem. what a shame.
Eddie 8/10
PVD 8/10
Gareth 9/10 (for playing a lot of my personal favourites)
and on my very exciting 17 hour stay at ibiza airport (NOT!), i got to meet gareth wyn and eddie halliwell themselves!! all around good trip, cant wait to go back in september! |
