PCI sound card

I'm in the market for a new PCI sound card and would appreciate some suggestions or advice on decent, affordable models.
Near zero latency is a must so if you own a particular model which provides low latencies, please let me know. Plus 5.1/7.1 out support would be excellent too.
I've tried a couple of Asus Xonar models (DS and DG) and the latency was terrible. It was probably over half a second which was unworkable.
I've been looking at the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and from the various forums i've looked on, people are very happy with the latency from it. The only downside (for me anyway) is that it doesn't support my 5.1 speakers.
Any advice would be cool.
