Im looking at picking up a recording device so i can start recording all my live sets.

Ive seen recording devices as much as 500$ and as cheap as 50$

I will be connecting the record out from my mixer (djm 700/xone 32) in to the device.

It seems with the high end devices you are paying for the mic quality- which i obviously dont need if im going from my record out.

Can i get away with a cheaper device? Or should i cough up some big bucks?

advice is appreciated.

I use a M-Audio MicroTrack II to record. It's not a bad little device, probably around $200. The attenuation on the digital in (-40dB, according to the manual) makes it pretty useless. I prefer to use the 1/8" TRS with RCA adapter instead.

The sound quality is decent, just have to make sure your levels are set so that it never clips. I did receive a DOA unit that had to be exchanged, but it's been working well since then.

I would look for something that uses SD cards since those are probably more prevalent and less expensive than CF cards.
