I had a great time last night and heard some pretty amazing tracks, but overall, I thought Markus' set lacked ebb and flow.

He was dark and banging right from the get go, but his set lacked variety over the six hour duration. I stayed the entire time hoping for something a little more. I've long considered Markus my favourite DJ and that's because he normally takes the crowd on a journey, especially during his extended sets. However, last night became repetitive after the first couple hours as it seemed he played the same style of hard techy trance all night. I wanted to hear some more melodic tunes.

I much preferred his May 2010 set when he started off more melodic with a few harder tracks mixed in, and as the night progressed, he went deeper down the rabbit hole, turning out banger after banger throughout the middle part of the set, and then closed out the last half hour with some more melodic and uplifting stuff. That set was a journey. Last night, on the other hand, his set had one speed: Go! I have no idea what Markus' partying habits are, but I kept thinking in my head that his set sounded like he was on coke--just an incessant adrenaline rush of tunes.

I will say that the last 90 minutes or so were great as I really enjoy dark and banging at the end of a set. The last 90 minutes also seemed to have more variety, which made the sounds more interesting. Hearing "Johnny the Fox" was one of my favourite parts of the night. But, I really wish he dropped "Not the Same."

He's still Markus, so it was an enjoyable musical experience, but it was definitely my least favourite set of the four times I've seen him.

This has to be the worst track to have ever been played in the Guv main room. Congrats to Markus!

This is the second time I've had someone try to pick pocket me at the club, sadly. Some short brown guy came past me subtly, quick hand in the back pocket and ripped out the water bottle i had in there, made quick eye contact as i turned around, and he dashed... sneaky bugger.

I wonder if it's the same person that has been stealing purses as well.

apparently it might be the same guy.... or at least someone from the same crew.

That's a pretty good review and I agree totally. I liked it for the same reason you didn't like it though so it goes to show how it all comes down to taste. I was loving the non-stop adrenaline action but around 5 was pretty tired. I was waiting for him to go through a phase of those lighter/melodic tunes so I could hit the inevitable energy crash and peace out. Needless to say that never happened, stayed till 7 and had a blast doing so.

Worth noting what an awesome guy he is too. Everyone who was there from 6:40-7:00 and beyond knows what I'm talking about...

I don't know how anyone could ask for more than a 6 hour Markus set for $20/25. Under the new UBB rules they want to enact I think it would probably cost more to stream video for a 6 hour set than it cost to see that show in person. lol

Hope you guys can snag him sooner than later cause he's got a whole lotta "karma" coming his way. If anyone needs an alibi when that happens just let me know. "Officer I saw the pickpocketer get caught and proceed to beat the out of himself, I swear."

I've had a guy try to pick pocket me in the main room. Twice in one night! ing greasebag. The guy doesn't fit other people's description though. The bouncers should be stricter on the sort of people they let into that club.

this makes me very glad I didn't go - I'd be bitching about this for weeks
I don't like when it's like that either - last time he played an extended set, I stayed the entire timne because of the variety, couldn't leave until the last track he played

this makes me a bit sad too - Markus is an all-time fave for me as well :\

Anyone have video of Marcus dropping Cosmic Gate - Fire Wire (Cosmic Gate's Back 2 The Future Remix)?

The crowd loved that!

Word. Markus is a great guy and it's obvious he loves playing the Guv and really respects his fans. Definitely worth more than the price of admission (however, I got in for free, so I guess my comment's invalid haha). I just wish he was more melodic.
