Addiction - The First Tranceaddict Holland Forum Party

Location: The Groove - Ede
Date: 9th of August 2002
Visitors: 108 people
Line-up:

Antiphus
The story so far: Antiphus started his career in 1993. In his early years he mixed gabber: nowadays known as old-skool. He started mixing trance 5 years ago. He’s won the mix-championship of the north in 1998 and performed at a lot of parties in Holland. Antiphus has got his heart set at Progressive Trance for some time now. Unfortunately, most people in the north of Holland aren't familiar with this kind of house-music. But when the time is ready, Antiphus will take over. He’s already mixed with some of the best House dj's, such as Tiesto, Jean, Lucien Foort, Erick E, Jurgen, Michel de Hey and many more!

Siesta
DJ Siësta was born on the 22nd of September 1986 by the name of Gerrit. When he was around 9 years old, he was already playing around with cd-players and his father’s old turntables. Slowly he became infected with the spirit of trance. He learned a lot from the Internet and Napster. Gerrit got acquainted with many new styles of music, a.o. Progressive, which is his biggest passion, together with "Uplifting" Trance. After a few years Gerrit also discovered vinyl. Gerrit’s passion is still growing, and will always be growing..it will never die!

Eye-Riz
Music has always been something I couldn't do without. Singing, dancing, playing the piano, playing the guitar, just listening...
In '93 I became familiar with 'house music'. Rasta, a friend of mine, wanted to let me hear some house music, because he knew for sure that I would like it. In that time, I just knew the top 100 - house, which I really hated. After a whole night of listening music to things like Red Herring from Union Jack (Platipus Rec.), DJ Fly, Mazzo Mix-Up no.?, Billy Nasty, Carl Cox, and some other stuff, I was sold....
I started visiting parties, in Utrecht and Amsterdam. But some parties missed the warm, deep, and happy sounds I was looking for.
I decided I wanted to play records, so I could make my own selection of music. But, the question was: where do I buy the music? I never heard of something as 'import record stores', I didn't know where to buy vinyl. And, not less important: what kind of gear do I need to play records?
In the mean time I partied on and on.... and on one of those parties, I met Johan. As we got to know eachother, I found out he was dj-ing, and obvious: he tought me the first things to know about spinning records... That was in '98.
In June '98, I gathered two old turntables, with a turn-pitch control, and an old mixing panel. In that same month, I opened our own '&joi' party. At least... I was trying :) That was the start of it all...
In november 1998, Johan and I joined forces with René and Cathelijne (2Freaks) and that's how Nexus was born...

Bellie
Verdine Started with spinning the wheels of steel 7 years ago,
after visiting a local hardcore party. He was interested in the dj's
at this party. And from this point he knew what he wanted to be: A Dj.
The only problem was that he wasn't able to buy 2 tables and a mixer.A friend of his told him he had 2 tables, a mixer and some old harcore vinyl.Because he didn't use the stuff, he desided to trade his wheels of steel for Verdine's Super nintendo.
For three years he mixed hardcore music. Sometimes at small local parties. After this period his interests moved from hardcore to Club trance and Trance. Since last year I Love Techno (11-11-2000) he sold his soul to Techno.
Nice swinging, groovy beats, the atmosphere, just everything was perfect about this style. Next year he will be mixing for the bigger audience. It is sure that this will be one of the successful techno djs in the Netherlands.

His role models are: Mauro Picotto & Misstress Barbara. Picotto because of his supreme productions and Mistress Barbara because of her extreme mixing skills. Of course he wants to be as good as them, but for success there is al long path waiting for him. He just started to get in to the big scene and he is very self confident.

The Report:
After a very long time of preparation, the day finally arrived. The Holland Forum would enjoy their first forum party, organised by Optimus, New Wave, dj Alpha and Magrec. The flyers were pressed (way too many :)), the website was built, the location was arranged...everything was set!

Around 6 pm the above mentioned members and Jukx met up at Ede Centrum Central Station to grab a bite to eat. Dinner took place at a little restaurant that New Wave had booked: yumm! Greek food!!! New Wave knew a certain girl in this place…that should have been the reason :)
During dinner the latest TA gossip was spread and also the last arrangements for the party. Lesson 1: don’t take New Wave out to dinner: he east from your plate when you’re not watching!!
Lesson 2: don’t take SnuggLe out to the Greek...it didn’t make the toilet very happy :p

* Let’s Eat!!

After dinner we decided to go to the coffeeshop to get some supplies ;)
After a couple games of “table-soccer” the group headed into the direction of the centre of Ede, to spread some extra flyers and to settle down outside of a bar
Lesson 3: don’t play table-soccer if you’re not in a coffeeshop for at least 8 hours a day :D

Finally we made our way to visit the Groove for a sound check and a location check. We arrived around 8.30 pm. We did a soundcheck, we made the cloak room ready for use and did some other preparations.

* The Groove...

* An empty Groove before kickoff...

* Jukx testing the sound and abusing the turntables :)

Around 9.30 the first visitors arrived, Miss Proximus & Antiphus accompanied by Franzelare, THC and Petrus. Little Theseus had made some banners with 'Addiction' on them, and one of them was put above the dj booth.

Antiphus, boyfriend of Miss Proximus, came all the way from the North and made his kick off at 10 pm. He started his set with some relaxing prog, slowly building towards harder prog and tech-house. I really liked his set. Unfortunately I had never heard him spin before! His style is compareable to Fred Numf. Antiphus ended his set with the killertune Milo - Jungle of Mirror, which Marco V spins a lot too.
Unfortunately for the dj it wasn’t very crowded on the dancefloor, as there weren’t many visitors yet. Luckily, the set was recorded! :)

* Antiphus on the wheels of steel...

After Antiphus it was time for DJ_Siesta. He spun Tiesto-like Trance, with many floorfillers, like Silence by Delerium (thanx :)). Unfortunately I couldn’t witness his entire set because I was helping with the coats…the crowd was beginning to arrive
Siesta ended his set with the sweet tune Underworld - Born Slippy...a classic!! Too bad that Siesta had to leave immediately after his set & didn’t have time for a chat.

* Siesta showing off his skills...

Now it was Eye-Riz her turn. This lady, who’d been having her birthday the day before & who’s known from the famous Nexus parties, could show her skills to a reasonably filled Groove
The flyer stated that Eye-Riz would spin acid, but IMO it was more of a mixture between progressive and again tech-house / techno. She didn’t spin many records I knew..which is always a good thing :) In the end Eye-Riz was banging pretty hard o make a good crossover for Bellie. Some people were even gabber-dancing!! :)

* Eye-Riz and her turntable-art…

Bellie, the Techno-Negro who has even spun at ID&T-radio twice, was booked to end the TA party with his technotunes. Damn! Did he bang!! The technobeats were shot into the room and the dancefloor was going wild. Optimus turned crazy when he heard "Hong Kong Hong Hong" in some record :)
Unfortunately the crew of the Groove tried to end the party earlier, because they thought ‘there weren’t enough people left’ Few people? I think 100 man is very reasonable! And it wasn’t like we’d been drinking from the toilets!
Bellie’s sweet technobeats lasted till around 4 am…and then he really had to finish off.

* Bellie mixing his technobeats…

* Grouppicture (half the group had already left) at 4.30 pm!!

Some pictures for all of you:

* Franzelare and THC

* Jukx and Magrec

* Yarnie, Petrus, Little Theseus, nonTA and Pivot

* Smirnoff

* M5

* Petrus, Jukx, Snuggle and dj Alpha

* New Wave and Bellie

* Eye-Riz and Leander

* Miss Proximus and Antiphus

* Eieregooie (far left) and two friends

* DJ_Siesta

* Snuggle and Optimus

* TimeportE (white/red shirt) and Dr. Kuipers (blue shirt)

* Kolkiewolkie (in the middle, red shirt)

Conclusion:

Good points:
- Good atmosphere
- Great people
- Superb soundsystem!
- Killer djs!

Bad points:
- Very few people in the beginning
- Siesta should’ve played before Antiphus
- Waiting for the train was too long
- .. New Wave and Optimus were too busy with the cloakroom…next time an outside person should be attracted ;)

Freak of the Night prijs:
- Smirnoff... ! :) You are one strange, but funny dude! :)

All in all it was an extremely succesfull first edition of Addiction!
Organisation (Alpha, New_Wave, Optimus, Magrec) thanks alot, DJs thanks, but ofcourse also the Tas that visited: Eye-Riz, Leander, Little Theseus, M5, Miss Proximus, Antiphus, Petrus, Yarnie, Pivot, THC, Franzelare, Jukx, Eieregooie & friends, DJ_Siesta, Bellie, Smirnoff, TimeportE, Kolkiewolkie & friends, Dr. Kuipers...and everyone I’ve forgotten!
See you @ the next Addiction!!
