Once a month is not " going out "

The days of having a 15000 person rave plus another 50,000 people downtown plus 4000 at guv amongst many other things happening in the suburbs are long gone.

The days of having packed clubs on a wed full of 1500 people listening to house music are long gone.

The days of the average 20 year old clubbing at least 4 times a week are long gone.

As i said, people in toronto dont go out anymore.

I remember those days. Go out Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and all day
Sunday. There were some weekends where I would get home just in time to grab a shower and head to work.

All the previously mentioned things, going out 4 times a week, starting on wednesdays etc.....we did all those things in the days of no bottle service, cheap cover charges and good drugs.

None of these things exist anymore.

For the average person to go out 4 days in one week, to Toronto clubs, your looking at cover charges up the ying-yang, bottle service, and or $8 drinks, and really really ty dope.

That being said, I'm surprised I still go out as much as I do.

i've said it before i'll say it again. CTRL ALT DEL the toronto club scene, and start from scratch. (but it'll NEVER happen)

greed is good apparently.

I think you're looking at it with too narrow a scope - the days of mega-clubs, massive raves, and of centralized club districts have long since been replaced with a plethora of smaller-scale venues scattered across the city catering to a wider range of tastes and demographics. Likewise, I imagine you're looking at mainly house, trance, or techno-focused stuff, which just aren't as popular now as they were 10 years ago (nowadays the kids are all listening to dubstep and electro and indie stuff and so on, things that aren't your "scene" basically).

Now, I still do believe that there is somewhat less mid-week stuff going on and maybe even fewer people going out on weekends today, but to say that its "because of Facebook" is a bit disingenuous. As has been mentioned, it costs more to party these days, and on top of that, the cost of living has risen higher as well. Rent is higher, jobs are scarcer, transit and gas cost more, post-secondary education is increasingly a requirement - and increasingly expensive, minimum wage is proportionally lower, etc...doesn't leave a whole lot of time or money left to pay for the also ever-increasing cover charges.

Its not as if every one suddenly stopped going out somewhere around 2008 when Facebook was becoming popular.

obviously my facebook comment was mostly tongue in cheek although it does have an impact on socializing in general.

As for your post you contradict yourself. First you indicate that people dont go out less and that people are just going to different venues. But then you say that yes people do go out less for the variety of reasons mentioned. Any way you slice it, 3 dozen hipster bars are still a fraction of the nightlife that used to exist. Put those hipster bars together and you may have 2 clubs out of the dozens that used to be packed at least 3 nights a week. Not even to mention that on top of all that people still went to those bars as well.

Or way back in the earlier days when I would only be home Monday and Wednesday's. The rest of the week was spent at various clubs around cities.

I wish my body could still do that sometimes, lol

And there were lots of times I just got home in time for a shower and head to work on a Monday morning. I can say that I don't miss those days. Monday's are ty, how did I manage that all those years. :stongue:

There were 2 events occuring this same night in Toronto. Lastly in Ontario, these 'legit' venues (hockey rink) are ultra conservative and follow these fire regulations that severely limit the amount of bodies allowed on the floor.

maybe people have realized tiesto hype is just that, and are sick of him coming to town every 8 months.

maybe it has nothing to do with regulations and other parties at all.

what goes up must come down.

If guvernment pulled 8,000 + Tiesto at 6,000. That's 14,000 total. I would say that's pretty good for a week night. What are you expecting people, a 20,000 person rave on a Tuesday?

Bryce Santiago
In my opinion these kind of numbers on a weeknight are a really good sign for the city. I think what we are witnessing is the next generation coming in the scene, and this could be great for the city.

That party at the guvernment looks insane...it looks like something from 10 yrs ago. I wish I could hear what the sets actually sound like though. If anyone has any recordings do post.
Digit ILL
everyone remains overpaid and the average club goer gets rinsed. despite the expectations and final numbers.
