I think the performer should be the focal point (whether its a band, a DJ, whatever), not shoved in a corner as if they're just making background noise. Because instead of having that unifying thing that everyone is focusing on and dancing to, you get people just kind of awkwardly dancing in their groups or in their little corner of the club. Or, dancing in front of the bar (dancing "at" the bartenders instead) and making it hard to get to for those that actually want a drink.
That kind of setup can work in a Top 40 club or lounge type place, but not in any sort of serious music-focused club/event. |
@ Oz, post up that pic you took at Vola tonight |

That's the way it used to be, before DJs became jesus. Oh no, people are going to have to socialise with other people on the dance floor! Please put the DJ booth front and center, so that people can get down and pray in unison. |

I think DJ'ing today is a performance plain and simple. The DJ booth should be front and center because lets face it, the majority of people DO want to be able to see the DJ. Its a show people...there is nothing like seeing an interactive DJ performance. Adds a new element to the experience.
As long as the jesus posing (which I have been gulity of myself) does not interfere with the quality of the music being put out (Steve Angello case in point.).
The days of being tucked away in a corner somewhere in the club playing tunes are disappearing fast. |

DJ booth behind the bar is the worst thing ever.
Anyway, how was Marcel? |
I like the new dj booth.
Maybe some black lighting behind the dj would be ok cause you can't see up there at all. |

| Leave the Dj booth where it is. I feel that when the booth is up there is gives a better vibe to the place and more room to move around. |
