i know about the OG banksy, I know BNE, i know all about this I grew up in this culture.

as for those who say it's past it's prime, you couldn't be more wrong and I'll leave you with one example - CORPORATE S are paying artist with a legacy to do private installments in their new posh bars and lounges when in fact years prior we were going to jail for that very same art.

MOCA in LA just finished up, Space Invader got nabbed (summoned), Banksy came through pre/post Oscar's and left his installments with MOCA as he departed the west coast, REVOK just got nabbed from the post-MOCA press about lack of authority on street art

Anything else you want to know?

Sure, how can something which exists as a subculture exist as it once was once it has been legitimized?

Nothing is ever as it once was.
Life is evolution.
Look at "medical" marijuana.

I guess when I think about graffiti art I compare it to other past counterculture art forms such as punk rock music. Once it entered the art galleries or concert halls it lost what made it great, the " you" that it gave society.

And on another note
I also consider there to be a difference between graffiti art and tagging.
The pieces I like are usually political statements made in significant locations. I.E. a war monument with a peace art design or something along those lines.

It's still nice and cool and can be quite quaint to look at with your girl on your arm and a campaign glass being served to you in a art hall. However, it has lost the edge. It has become that punk rocker who was all so hardcore back in 76, who littered his body with tattoos and piercings knowing that he never wanted a corporate job anyways but in the meantime the world who wanted to be like him has turned into him and every jack ass in a suit sports a couple tats while 13 year old girls buy t-shirts of the ramones at hot topic. This is where I say graffiti art now lays.

your perception is wrong and you obviously don't know anything about graf or it's subculture but I'm glad you tried to correlate it to something which is also wrong. hey, at least you tried.
jdat
you thinking is seriously messed up.

so because someone has entered the art circuit they aren't legit anymore?

thank Obey, he was pasting up the streets like crazy, then it became a huge phenomenom and a brand, heck he even did presidential campaign stuff... yet he's still doing the illegal stuff in the street ...

is he legit or not?

everyone in or out of the graffiti scene has their little theories as to what is real and what isn't ... what I perceive to be vital is being extremely active.

some people are all city bombing tags everywhere and not doing anything more that fat juicy tags and others do nothing more than nice legal walls every other year.

who's legit and who's not ....
