Gotten Lazy with Music
View this Thread in Original format

This is for the 25+ crowd...but as I've gotten older, i've found myself getting much lazier with music. I used to mix a new album roughly once a month or 2 months when first getting in the scene. I've just noticed that its been 2 YEARS since the last time i actually made a new album. I've been mostly relying on podcasts to get me through. While they are good, I miss the individuality of hand picking songs to make a mix catered specifically to my liking. Unfortunately i'm sure like many over 25, the time just isn't there like it used to be. I'm curious if anyone still finds the time and has the dedication to make new albums. Obviously active djs don't really count.

Lack of motivation due to music over the last few years???

It's just recently been getting better...

Maybe some new, GOOD tracks will move you...

As we get older many peoples priorities change and things we did for fun or as a hobby become less important. There are so many things I use to do that I just find are now at the bottom of the list to do...unfortunately the list keeps growing faster and faster.

^ Puh-lease. I used to spend one hour looking per track I found that I liked. Now it's three.

wrong ! you just got older...

I did get older, but that doesn't mean the market isn't over-saturated with tunes that would've never made a pressing if someone had to invest money in it.

Well I don't know wtf is wrong with you guys but I keep up with new releases like it's my ma'in job.. pretty much daily and I EASILY find hawt all the time. If anything, there's too much good being released at the moment in my style (techno mostly). I think you just have to know where to look. I know what I like, I know what labels I like, I keep up with charts so I can see what releases are coming and I check the new techno releases daily ... Finding new music can be time consuming but if you know what you're doing it's rather easy plus there's nothing I love more than sifting through finding the gems

it's not hard to overlook those tunes... When I'm browsing through releases I know what's going to sound like and what's not going to before even listening for the most part, so I don't usually listen to what I know is gonna sound like . Sure, some things fall through the cracks (not that much though when you know what you want) but that saves me hours + loads of ear aches

even though its over saturated indeed it doesn't mean that amount of good music decreased, with soundcloud and other online media the sheer amount of good music available increased exponentially, just because you used to spend less time searching for music doesn't mean that music was better. I went through few thousands of records in last year spanning from 1995 till 2005 and sheer amount of pressed on records was the same, just that our perception on the "current sound" at that time was different, be it breaks, house, trance, techno etc.

The distribution has shifted away from labels to direct interaction between musicians and listeners. Yes it might've impaired the sound quality but i believe this effect will be temporary as mixing and good quality mastering services will decrease in cost in next decade.

Also i think over-saturation is temporary as well while everyone and their mother and cousin wants to make music currently i believe its just a fad and peoples focus will shift away from music soon enough just as some form of new entertainment arrives or a new music style will call for new instruments that require certain amount of skill.

.

Please demonstrate and/or share some good new techno.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, I just really want to hear some.

Thanks.
