Ever heard the phrase, "Dreams really do come true", and thought, "Wonder when it's my turn"? Well, if you're an aspiring artist in the electronic music world, your time could well be now.
Grammy-winning producer and DJ Sharam is offering up-and-coming DJs from southern California the opportunity of a lifetime: a chance to play on the main stage at the renowned Avalon club in Hollywood.
But surely, a break this big entails some hidden "in", right? Think again. The offer is open to anyone and everyone who thinks they have what it takes. And just what is that? Blow-away talent (with a bit of experience) is one ingredient; the ability to market oneself is another.
"I wanted to do something that would create an avenue for an up-and- coming DJ to get a shot at breaking through," says Sharam. "Nowadays, talent is just half the picture, the other half is the ability to market yourself.
This contest rewards not only the talent a DJ has, but also their marketing ability."
So how exactly does it all work? Entrants will have to create a Facebook event page (affiliated with the contest) for themselves; and the DJ with the most people listed as "attending" at the end of the contest plays onstage
with Sharam on April 30th, 2011. That's it? That's it.
"This contest will result in a win-win situation," says Sharam. "The winning DJ gets a shot at an opening slot at my event, and also at a world class venue like Avalon; and throughout the contest, more buzz is generated for
the event."
But the grand victor won't be the only one who'll rake in the winnings. The contest's 2nd through 4th place runner-ups will also attend the event (along with a guest) on VIP access.
Adds Sharam, "[the contest] is giving others a chance to win something, as we are giving a Yooshi USB Stick loaded with all the Yoshi releases from the past year, plus some which are upcoming, as well as unreleased
bits from myself to the runner-ups, and VIP tickets to come hang out behind the DJ booth."
See? Dreams really do come true.
