What speakers should I go for?

None of the above - if you're just going to be mixing tracks and not producing, you'd be better off buying a decent quality second-hand receiver and a pair of tower speakers. That, or a small pair of powered PA speakers - 10" (I believe the Mackie SRM350s come in around your price point) or 12".
This is why I always recommend adding a sub to studio monitors for DJing. For production, you want flatness, for DJing, you need warmth. Studio monitors alone will not provide that warmth. |

| agree with pivottechno. get some small PAs or a normal hifi. monitors will make your ears bleed as monitors are made for revealing everything in the mix, which you dont wont unless you are a producer. behringer has some cheap 8" PA for almost nothing but they will probably lack a little bass, so maybe the 10" version is a better choise. |
