What speakers should I go for?

I have a budget of roughly £250

I know very little in terms of acoustics so was hoping some of the audiophiles on here could assist in the decision making process please?

These are going to be for bedroom use only for the purposes of mixing.
no soft furnishings in the room. Wooden flooring and the room is approx 12ft x 20ft
In addition any advice for good cables is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

None of the above - if you're just going to be mixing tracks and not producing, you'd be better off buying a decent quality second-hand receiver and a pair of tower speakers. That, or a small pair of powered PA speakers - 10" (I believe the Mackie SRM350s come in around your price point) or 12".

This is why I always recommend adding a sub to studio monitors for DJing. For production, you want flatness, for DJing, you need warmth. Studio monitors alone will not provide that warmth.

agree with pivottechno. get some small PAs or a normal hifi. monitors will make your ears bleed as monitors are made for revealing everything in the mix, which you dont wont unless you are a producer. behringer has some cheap 8" PA for almost nothing but they will probably lack a little bass, so maybe the 10" version is a better choise.

Thanks guys.

Ok so now I'm looking here:

I've got my old Denon amp which I could use so that's all good.

Preferably wanting bookshelf speakers as I have speaker brackets fixed.

Like the look of these and my first pair of speakers were Mordaunt Short..

if you are looking on bookshelf speakers i recommend tannoy or b&w on low budget.

id consider this though:
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B208D-WH.aspx

way more punch and fun, and it doesnt need external amp as its inbuild.
