Been screwing around with the Korg Radias' vocoder. This is a pretty cool synth for $700! I think someone in these forums recommended it to me. You definitely have to design your own sounds to be happy with this synth. Using the vocoder you can often tailor a sound to be the "synth sound" that you want -- not just the "vocoder sound". It opens up much more possibilities.
