| He's almost a saint....I believe they are looking for one more miracle. If he performed a miracle on you please let the Vatican know. |

| It was a miracle all right. I couldn't sit down for weeks. |

it's been well established here in the c0r that moral hazard and myself are i believe the only two people that don't hate religion with every vein in their body (especially Catholicism). |

| Doesn't the process of becoming a saint usually take years? Beatification is just the first step. |

| Ah but dont forget, this is the pope we are talking about here. Sainthood may take ages for scumm of the earth like you, me and every other sinner on the face of the planet (and there are oh so many of us, most of us never get our turn :( ), but for an outstanding member of society like the pope, well gosh the only thing i dont get it how come he wasnt made a saint when he was alive, surely an exception can and should be made for such an exceptional person, that has done nothing but good in his life and brought such joy and happiness to everybody in the world. |

That's true. The time of the process though is generally related to how many resources the vatican is prepared to put into investigating the preported miracles. The Church puts a great deal of care into disproving preported miracles and has a very methodical process for doing so. They only accept something as a miracle when all their attempts to disprove it fail. For most of the Beatified they only have a few people working on disproving the preported miracles but given the status of JP2 it is probable they will put more resources in place to speed the process. |

Actually, despite a couple of snide remarks I made recently (and that I now understand were a reaction to an overly religious friend who tried to push his beliefs on me), I'm probably the only atheist around here who's always trying to protect the religious freedom of others.
Much to the dismay of everyone else :p |

| Normally I wouldn't care about whatever happens within this religion but after reading this I find it weird that no one within the church has complaints. |
