Keeping motivated in the studio (pg. 2)

I was watching Funkagenda in the studio and he said of motivation that he treated production just like an ordinary 10 hour per day job. Sometimes fun, at others a slog.
We aren't entitled always to be having fun although some would say the main point is just to have fun (often get this comment on TA), but I find always looking for fun / happiness to be a shallow mistress. Prefer contentment spinkled with some fun and some slog.
Downing tools when the fun bit stops is easy. Slogging through the tough hours can be rewarding in the end.
I'm sure the masters back in the day found thier paintings to be a slog on many a day. |

Me and my girlfriend have just split up I haven't made music in over a month! Once I get settled in a little 1 bedroom apartment I think I will get my motivation back but I have had ZERO lately. Just alot of stress we've lived together about 4 years, have to split up our , rent out our house, ugh.
I've been listening to alot of music lately to cheer me up but have been making none what so ever. |

Sorry to hear it man. (same for Palm but he always has drink to keep him company).
I would do what palm says, get your life ironed out then hit the studio - don't leave it too long though, you might want to get some of that emotion down in to some tracks...... |

Working on it! Looking at places next week I'm excited to start something new and get focused on something other than a relationship like making some music :)
I stopped drinking in 2007 but I do smoke alot of weed and that needs to go as well for a time until I have my feet under me again and my sorted. |

Good point. Sometimes a track sitting on my mac unfinished really nags at me. Not that art is ever actually finished but..... |
