Beats by Dre Headphones Studio edition - my friend got ripped off?

I always heard Monster makes some incredibly pricey and notched up cables. These headphones can't possibly be worth the 3 bills, can they?

His friend said they were rebrands of some 50 dollar SHURE studio cans. Anyone know about this? He got the cans at Best Buy for $300. I think they may be a rebadge with a custom enclosure, but can't say for sure.

First off, beats by dre are consumer headphones. It doesn't matter what they say. They are consumer headphones, think of all the endorsements involved, the music video for "Like a G6" is a prime example.

I'm not sure if they are rebrands, because they are active with batteries and bleh. However, I would not be surprised if the $50 cans were as good, or significantly better, especially for studio work. I prefer my $50 cans over the beats, they seem more balanced and even.

Thanks.

I think these look considerably better. Thoughts?

Pretty much anything/everything from Monster is a scam. $300 for an HDMI cable? Yeah, okay.

AKG is pretty much the industry standard for production cans. The K27x is their "premium" model, with the K240 being the one used by mouth-breathing cheapskates such as myself. I can't say definitively that they're the best of the best, but I can say definitively that they are worth the price.

I don't own them, but I'd definitely buy them, especially after reading this.

Thanks Digi.

That's what I've heard about the cables from Monster. They just beef up the cosmetics as much as possible. AKGs it is.

Monster just make pretty looking cables in fancy boxes. Just like Beat By Headphones, they make overpriced crap, that is beaten int terms of quality by brands that cost a fraction of the price.

They're overpriced and overhyped. Yes, your friend was ripped off.

Why would someone pay for aesthetics and noise cancellation for studio headphones?

Unless you are producing on the streetz like a real homie. Brap Brap.

Branding and design are everything, who cares about the product quality?

I recently read Ben Elton's "Meltdown". One of the characters in it made a lot of money through massively expensive designer goods, including fancy boxes of chocolates which contained two or three small inedible chocolates. But the packaging hit all the right notes, and mentioned "free trade chocolate" and "environmentally friendly packaging" and so on. And the boxes of inedible chocolates were incredibly expensive.

Meh, if some people have more money than sense, good luck to them!

(by the way, I have no experience with Monster products whatsoever)

I've listened to them, they give off insane bass, but the demo station only had really gay 808 drum kit hip hop .

When I say insane bass it was like they pushed an eq at 150Hz by 12dB.

I cannot imagine them being any good for anything really.
