Is fathers day just as ing lame? Don't you have kids? I don't expect much on mothers day but recognition of how much work/care goes into being a (good) mum is always nice. It is the only thing I have taken really seriously in life and I think I'm doing a pretty decent job considering my 5 year old is shaping into a pretty smart, well balanced kid. I tell my kids at least twice a day that I love them and while there is a lot of times I wish I'd be doing things for myself or travelling or just going out. I know spending all this time with them will help them in the future... Lol I'm sure no one really gives a about all this but GUESS WHAT... It's a ing mothers day thread. :gsmile: |
I think Mothers' Day is a great and well-deserved holiday, but it does kind of bother me how Fathers' Day isn't celebrated nearly as much. Granted, you were the one who gave birth and all, but the father had just as much to do (or should have anyways) with raising the children.
Either way, happy Mothers' Day! |

Of course Fathers' Day is just as lame. If you only receive thanks and love from a person who's been told to do it, feels obligated to do it, it's not exactly genuine or heartfelt, is it? |
no you're right, it isn't genuine or heartfelt.. but no one told my husband or kids to say thanks, etc. Maybe my family is alot different then yours, we tell each other we appreciate each other all the time, kids included. I know this sounds really ing brady bunch but that's just how we do things. i grew up in a family that never told each other we love/appreciate, so i made a point of doing it in our family. We argue alot too, but it seems to balance it out a bit. i think valentines is a total cop out, so i do see your point with mothers/fathers day. i do appreciate the well wishes though!
oh and srussell0018 i definatly treat fathers day the same as mothers day, if not make a bigger deal. there are alot of fathers that don't step up to the plate, so it's important to me to let eli know how appreciated it is, but like domesticated was implying, it's not something that should be done on a designated day, i do this year round as well... |

| Very true, but at least as I've seen in the US, on Mother's day it's flowers and cards and brunch or dinner etc. etc. etc., and on Father's day it's a card and a couple gifts. It just seems as if Mothers' Day is a "bigger" holiday in general. Sounds like your family is doing things right. :) |

lol no I wasn't raised mormon.. my dad is an atheist and my mum joined the mormon church when i was 12 and then i decided to join when i was 16. I would never want another husband, picking up after one is a big enough job in itself.
the reason that mothers day is more commercially advertised is because men usually will open their wallet more then women do to buy all the commercial like tacky jewellery, flowers and chocolate etc to reassure the weepy, hormonal mother that someone actually cares. honestly, if you don't get presents on mothers day and take it personal, you've got a bigger issue then not getting gifts. |

You appear a bit... cynical. I agree that love doesn't need to be demonstrated on a single day... Even though I try to have an "unofficial" mother's day event at least once every few months, I do little more on this day. Besides, you must admit - it's nice to have a special day when someone can have an opportunity to underline the importance of your presence in their life and make you feel EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA special, as commercialized as it has been made. |

You're a jew, your Mum runs your life. Of course you want to have an unofficial Mothers' Day every couple of months. If you didn't, she'd ruin you. |

Stereotype is stereotypical. My mom stays out of my life and gave me freedom since like I was 11, bro. But while we're stereotyping... You're Australian and your parents are descendants of convicts. There. :tongue3 |

That's probably because she doesn't like you. |
