What methods work best to getting your track(s) signed to labels? (pg. 3)

then i know why i get little response from labels, first of all i only write to 3-4 of them and my email is even briefer than the common example, yet so similar to what i usually send. I try to describe the track moments and influences but what else can i say, yes, you can drop that you are the next nš1 because X, and Y and Z play your tracks but apart from describing the track and casual name dropping you can't make a very good email.

maybe we should write together the "perfect label letter" and start using it if the business has become so hard that you even need a professional quality mail to get a chance.

I wrote this article several years ago, I'm not sure if it's still 100% accurate but it might help:

Sending out a demo for the first time

Just replace the private web-page for Soundcloud and it's quite good again I guess.

Ironically I talked about a track that got some attention from Armada music within a week but they never did anything with it in 2005. Recently in 2011, they actually licensed that same track I talked about in the demo tutorial for one of their compilations called `Proghouse 2011`. Apparently I was just 6 years ahead. :toothless

1. make great track
2. put on cd
3. give to djs at events
4. send by post to labels
5. ???

my point is: email isnt working if you want to stand out.

I'm curious why your SC looks so desolate?

Not a dig, just an observation.

probably because i'm not very likable and I suck donkeyballs.

I've always thought you were just mildly off putting.

I hadn't thought about your dietary intake, but thanks for the hairy insight.

"off putting"? lol
I always thought storyteller was a standup guy. Although I'm off the forum for weeks at a time so I likely miss a lot.

If your SC is desolate I would think its more due to your music (haven't heard it yet) then you being mildy off putting. I could care less if an artist is a sociopathic serial killer if their musics good their musics good.

Anyway on topic. I never understood why people cared so much about getting signed. I think my new goal will be to become the best trance artist thats ever lived and I'll also be the only artist at that level to not have a label. labels imo. What do they do? Nothing. Advertise your music? that . I'll get a myspace/facebook and thats all the exposure I need.
I think producers just like to tell people "I got signed" like its an accomplishment or something. Accomplish making good music because there are thousands of garbage producers with a label. Maybe if I was a more consistent producer I'd have a different perspective but all I really give a about is the music. Labels don't excite me one bit, making a track that will make people their pants is what excites me.

g/luck in your label hunting voyage.

Thanks Robby. There's just times when I can be pretty harsh and opinionated. Sometimes I'm just too convinced my way is the only way and that might be it.
You should check my SC robby ;). No uber rolling basslines though. Just prog stuff.

Honestly I don't really use any tools to do some proper promotion of myself. i just couldn't be bothered as I'm busy enough the way I am right now. Especially since new clients (local governments) have accepted my proposals. They've got plenty of time and little commercial interest and take a lot of time on making their websites right hehe.

I'm just glad I can sometimes still make some music. I sign the tracks to pretty much any label that might be interested and make a decent impression or are owned by friends. Going label shopping might be worth the effort but I don't feel like it. Music industry needs a big takeover anyway, I don't like the state it's in right now at all. Signing with labels isn't worthwile anymore unless it's a big fish.

lol what? In my opinion you're easily one of the most likeable people on here, right up there with Cryo. Not sure why you think people dislike you :conf:

don't forget the actual topic at hand here ;)

Was Storyteller the only one who knew I was joking? :conf:

Anyhoo, my point was I didn't know why you (ST) didn't seem to promote your Soundcloud more rather than why don't you get more adoration there? It's pretty much the goto place these days after all. Perhaps you're just using it as a storage facility and pushing to FB?
