After a long night of dancing, many night club patrons leave the venue with a certain track stuck in their heads. But for Âme, the DJ/production duo of Kristian Beyer and Frank Wiedemann, the tunes lodged in their brains are the ones they didn't hear, ones not yet written that would fit perfectly in their sets. Since 2003, Beyer and Wiedemann have penned songs that once existed just outside club-goers' imagination, songs that boldly combined floor-filling elements with conceptual conceits while maintaining their visceral appeal. As part of Innervisions, the collective/label they run with Dixon, Âme (pronounced "AHM") offer glimpses of the future of electronic music through their live project, genre-melding compilations, and an independently run shop that completes the connection between artist and admirer. In a genre obsessed with reliving the past, Âme are focused on what's still to come.
Germany's Âme has been releasing music since 2003, but really burst on to the scene in 2005 with their hit “Rej” which was played by house and techno DJs alike. In 2006 they paired up with Innervisions label mates Dixon and Henrik Schwarz to sample Derrick Carter’s vocal for the track “Where We At.” As their status increased, so did their remix opportunities highlighted by taking on Rodamaal’s “Insomnia” and Akabu’s “Phuture Bound.”
Âme’s DJ skills have been honed with regular nights at such establishments as Robert Johnson (Frankfurt), Fabric (London), Trouw (Amsterdam), Lux (Lisbon), Air (Tokyo) and marathon sets during Innervisions nights at the famous Panorama Bar (Berlin). In 2008, Âme compiled and mixed volume 42 of the illustrious Fabric series. As a follow up to the Fabric compilation, Âme joined forces Dixon and Henrik Schwarz for the highly acclaimed mix CD, Grandfather Paradox. Recently Âme has gone the solo route for their recent compilation titled Primary Structures, out now on their own Innervisions record label.
