New to the trance scene, looking for some feedback

Hey there, I'm brand new to this forum, but I figured I could post some of my original stuff here to get some feedback. I'm new to the whole "writing music" thing too, especially trance which I've only even been listening to for a few months... so cute me some slack :tongue2

Anyway, I hope I"m doing this right... rough mix of a song I wrote last week. Not done yet, but can I get some feedback or help in general? Thanks!

Paradise Lost Part 1

i like the drone bass that comes in - the kick drum seems to have a bit of too much reverb in it - i like when the shaker or whatever comes in - the string is way to sudden, maybe make it softer. i like the beat, once again there seems to be a reverb overdose... i like how ur changin things up with the synths sounds good -

what equipment are you using for this?

that guitar bit, should have more sustain in the notes to make it sound more like that electric guitar sound ur goin for - dont pan it all the way to the left or right - just a little so it doesnt hurt ppl's heads - then it'd sound great. its a good idea to pan like that, just not so extreme.

i think it be better to hear some sort of trance pluck instead of the synths that come in after it - like something with little or no attack, a good ammount of delay, and low sustain / mid release.

i like the boom hit sounds good - if u got those plucks in, it would sound great with the strings that come in, u nailed those :) - i like the synth that comes in after as well - just needs a bit of mastering there. also the FX goin in the back are good. i like how u bring back the guitar, try do go with what i suggested i believe it would make it sound much better. I believe a completly silent part would grab the listeners attention - cut off everything right before the 1 - and then after about a measure - bring back everything with the beat - and get a more solid kick in order to excite the listener more. u got the basics and the song - it just needs work :)

i'm glad you found this forum, ppl on here love to help with these things :)

good luck.

Thanks so much man, I'll get right on that. I just updated the song a bit, adding another main riff (best one so far I think to be honest). I'll post it soon. For now, I have to do some EQing and work on some of that stuff you pointed out. I appreciate it.

no problem man - i myself only recently started listening to trance as well (this year) and i know that it brings me much pride in making some of it to share with others :) with practice u'll slowly get better (as will i)

good luck on ur song and yea post the updates here

Yeah I mostly got into trance because it's electronic so I can do it all on my computer, and because it's my favorite electronic genre. I'm actually really big into metal (vocalist for a band), but it's something I could write at home. I don't play guitar, so it's what I could do, but I've grown to love it. Oh and you asked before, but I sequence with Cubase 5, and I use HalionOne, TranceDrive, Massive (Native Instrumetns), and soon Komplete (also Native Instruments). Trying to get Alchemy also.
And yeah, like you said I've been getting better and better pretty rapidly as I learn tricks and such and as I listen more, so hopefully I'll be going only uphill from here.
Do you have any tracks I can hear? It trips me out to hear original stuff.

i'ev thrown down a couple of random tracks here and there, although i just recently acquired a new synth (ReFX vanguard < i like it a lot) and started a remake of an old tune from the early days of trance - http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...26#post10950226

thats the thread - i didnt write the song, but i made everything you hear from inside of logic with vanguard.

Sounds great man! Great production. And ok, yeah I just got Vanguard. It is pretty amazing, I have to say! Haha. Thanks!

Final update (I think):
Paradise Lost
Added a lead from the middle to the end, did some EQing. I'm fairly happy with it.

listening now - also i'd apprechiate if you give me some feedback on this new track im working on http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...69#post10960869

- so far it sounds pretty good - maybe a synth in a higher octave would do better when that one comes in around 1:30 or so - panings a little better, if u want a nice guitar sound you should check out RealStrat or RealLPC from Musiclab

i like the boom/hit, brings things in nicely, sfx are good - i like the arpeggio - maybe if u had the sfx going more frequently than once every 16bars i like the strings very much - i like how they become a synth pad sort of -

overall it is an upgrade - now u just gotta master

Chaz Cunningham
Yeah, actually the thing that comes in at 1:30 is a pad, it's not really supposed to sound like a guitar. Just kind of an instrument I used to subtly change the chord progression from major to minor, then back.
