How true is this !
I find my self working on a track, layer after layer, towards the end I starts pealing layers until I reach this simple form that is more powerful and driving and way more catchy.
This plugs right into the subject of choosing the right sound instead of the best combination, the right sound will beat the best combination any time
How complicated your best track is ? |

True, but sometimes it's also very complicated to end up with something that looks so "simple and obvious"
I seldom end up with something simple, without making the complexity detour first.... |

This is close to my heart. I find I start with a core simple nice beat, but keep adding to it as I guess my brain gets over familiar with it so thinks more and more needs adding.
Forum feedback often leads to me adding more layers as someone will ibnvariably say the break could use another layer / another thing going on, and for I know it I have a 100 lane monster getting me down. |

same here, when project spans over a long period I find my self adding stuff because I was too familiar with the things that are already there, just can't help it.
Best thing to do is move on to different part of the track or even put it aside for a while. when you get back to it, you'll know for the most part what to get rid off and how should it sound, it just happens |

| I've this tendency to add and keep adding until I reach a point where there's enough material to satisfy the piece in its entirety, but not so much that I feel the need to delete things here and there. I'd sometimes reorganise the structure of the sounds, but I wouldn't usually wipe them off the face of the project. I think it helps to know what you want in advance. |

| i go overboard w/ adding as well, but when its time to mix and get everything sounding right i constantly mute channels and sounds to see what it does. I think when you're being creative add as much as you'd like but when it's time to get the track sounding professional you need to make decisions on what's necessary and what's doing zilch (and or making your track make less sense) |

| i don't use many layers maybe will use 2 layers for the lead thats it , the bass i try and use 1 patch maybe 2 sometimes , it's just about getting sounds working together i find it really easy i mean my tunes sound really simple but i've had releases so im guessing must be doing something right |
