"Windows-7-Recovery" virus? (pg. 3)

Be careful. The virus thread I posted just a few days ago was similar. We used Malware Bytes, it found and destroyed the virus, but then the symptoms kept happening. Successive scans found nothing, indicating the virus had found a way to trick MWB.

thats why you do a system restore, and fix the registry.


reformat should be the last resort.

How does one do a system restore when,

a) They have no idea when the computer contracted the infection?

b) A restore point has not been set manually for the entire life of the computer?

And how does one fix the registry when the nature of the infection is unknown?

I don't see why reformatting should be a last resort, either. I did mine today and it took me about an hour, then another hour of reloading files from my HD while I was out getting lunch. So essentially an hour. Why would I bother to spend that hour ing around in the registry, unsure of what I'm doing and whether I'll actually nab the infection?

i used to think they were overpriced wastes of money too...they are fun because they last more than 3 years and you never need to do any of this .
