Here's my first trance (well, I guess, semi-trance?) production and my third or fourth production that I've made over the past week (this production along, my first really serious one, took about 3-4 days to create and master). I'm using FL studio, which I'm a bit of a newb at, so I'm focusing mainly on melodies (i.e. my songs won't really have introductions or complicated drumlines - I'm crappy at them anyway). I might extend the track later, but I want to hear your input first.

Many thanks,
Rokov :)

thats awesome you're producing trance. the synths are pretty cool. I think it would need variability and playing (automating) with effect knobs.

check my track out when you have a chance and let me know how it sounds.

Suppose for a first time that's not bad matey.

I'll be honest though, there seems to be a lack of depth, and I'm not really drawn into the piece. The instrumentation is also a bit harsh.

You'll hear this alot, but don't worry about "mastering" for awhile. Best to stick with non-mastered renders 'till you've had some practice and get your hands on some Studio Monitors. (This is coming from someone who fervently advocates the practice of mastering your own track)

The melody is kinda catchy though.

I think that 1:15 was also bit anti-climactic and you coulda setup for a nice drop. Build/break is a pretty important aspect for good trance imo.

Best of luck ;D

Thanks guys, comments have been very helpful. :P

I'm slowly looking into adding more effects to my tracks, but for now, I'm focusing on adding more bass (I don't use bass synths per se, just the lead synth playing bass an octave down :tongue2). Also, any good tips you guys have on building/breaking. I've listened to enough trance/club/hardcore to know where producers put them and how they implement them, but mine tend to be less convincing when I use them.

My second production ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPW-Bj87PwQ&feature=related ) is much more bass-y, and I've went to town a bit more with changing gain and pitch limiting, but I've got no idea to make the sound cleaner (In my opinion, it isn't a very clean sound at all, don't you agree?). Oh yeah, and the end isn't made that well, but I'm going to extend the track when I can.

try using compression and eq to make sounds pop out of your mix more. Make sure that frequencies aren't competing for the same space. Maybe bus your drums to an aux track with compression and mix that with your dry drum track, aka parallel compression.

Interesting to listen to, but the synths are pretty flat and preset sounding without any color or quality to them. Cool chord progression, though.
