(since you're constantly referring to old-skool) Most clubs used to be brimming with people who were into dancing and the party itself, rather than all facing the DJ and watching him perform his antics and Jesus Poses™. In that sense something like this may not have mattered all that much if the music playing was really great.
Only if you were watching could it become an issue, and in the end a matter of taste really.... And since it was your pick, not sure how much watching someone playing "Free" by Deniece Williams as an encore would provide in the entertainment department either. Really.
