So back to this point. I talked to my friend Nick who, along with his wife, are very well respected psychologists and own the largest psychological private practice in Florida. His wife Judy is especially seasoned in giving and scoring assessments. Below is my conversation I just had with him:
Maybe don't rely so much on Wikipedia as the truth-detector? |
eh... did you read the article i posted earlier? it's not a pop psychology test.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/201...ot-a-psychopath
lengthy discussion about the test and the psychologist who invented it and licenses it.
this is the official description

your friend sounds out of his element... there are different areas of research in psychology.
he probably knows the official name: "PCL-R"
edit: LOL florida |

I don't know if they're out of their element... they use the most current, legitimate, and valid tests for their expertise. They definitely don't run a low rent operation. There are so many tests out there that it's tough to weed though the b.s., even if they were created by someone with a good looking professional background. |

You make them sound like they just do private psychology stuff. Most people who fit into that field aren't exactly dealing with the criminally insane or psychopaths. |

All of those people were the basic , though. Anxiety/depression/family issues/mentally retarded kids/etc. No one specializing in serial killers. I'm not saying they're not good at what they do or anything, but psychopaths and criminally insane people are kind of a special niche that most psychologists aren't going to fit into. No matter how good someone is at the regular issues, I'm not entirely surprised that they wouldn't recognize the name of a psychopathy test.
Plus, well... Florida, man. |

well that's the point- the test can't possibly be well respected for that fact. Everyone across all psych disciplines knows what the MMPI is, what the WAIS is, what the Myers Briggs is, etc. There are probably thousands of tests... and to not even hear about one while taking pretty intensive assessment courses in a doctoral program says something. |
