Ahhh Roland. The supersaw. 808 and 909. When will their reign of terror ever end?

I love the way the Gaia plays. Me and my band were going to get one but things didn't work out and yea.

I do agree that software is software, but I disagree in it's sound to an extent. At least for me, hardware feels better to play and tweak, it's more inspiring. I think that leads us to think it sounds better when it's simply the physical side of our mind connecting with the creative side in a way that a mouse and typing keyboard can't match.

But in the end music is music. :)

Yes anyone with half a brain knows digital is digital is digital. But anyone with half a brain knows its not just the filters responsible for the unique sounds. If I use no fx and no filters on my virus it still sounds extremely lush, warm, and deep. So its obvious theres a difference between digital ITB and digital OTB.

Hardware is simply better than software. In regards to sound. In regards to conveniency not so much. I'm not sure why people keep trying to argue that someone might actually prefer the abrasive sound of a digital ITB synth to a warmer hardware unit. They prefer it because its easier to work with, not cause it sounds better. Anyone trying to argue that fact needs to stick a cu tip in their ears and clean them out.

Here we go again

In the end software will win out. At some point we'll have large touchscreens and softsynths with great looking knobs we can reach out and adjust.

In terms of sound, each synth has a particular sound. Whether hardware or software, digital or analog. In general, the companies making the hardware have been making synths for longer. And I'd estimate that a number of them don't mind that their gear can't be easily copied and distributed.

In the long run, it'd be a brave person who bets against computers.

I'd say that this forum is populated with the bravest of the brave then:rolleyes:

Interesting point you raise though, because I seriously doubt that knobs as we know them will have a future in digital synths. knobs don't make much sense on a touch screen after all, because rotating something on a touch screen isn't very ergonomic. Faders make good sense on a multitouch screen, as do XY pads and those pads with movable dots on them for different parameters, but knobs... Not so much IMO...

It'll certainly be interesting how interfaces develop in the next several years anyway.
Inner Sanctum
I disagree that knobs, buttons, sliders, etc will ever go away because as long as there are musicians, there will be tactile interfaces with physical controls. Musicians generally want/need something immediate that we can feel without looking at, is responsive, etc. Even in the Vsynth video above, the musician is using the knob and never even touches the screen from what I saw. But don't get me wrong, I agree that the future looks to be dominated by touch screens and they will continue to improve, but there are many situations where physical controls are better suited to get the job done.

I love the irony of the chosen topic title whereafter our beloved topicstarter claimed hardware is better than software. While the OP in combination with the topic title states the opposite.

I'm suprised by the kind behaviour though, that's a plus. Eveybody has been kind so far. This topic is almost pure flamebait.

- The OP calls hardware his vsti's.
- The OP then states hardware is better than software.
- Posting gear in a topic without any question or food for thought. Thus not contributing in any way to this forum. Especially since there is a seperate topic for these kunds of things. The studio pictures thread.

Kudo's :)

Have to correct you there Storyteller, didn't say BETTER, said different. :) lite the fire is fine, but do it on facts don't twist things around ;) BTW will post some new stuff later tonight.

Ok. That leaves 2 facts intact.

I still don't understand why this topic exists other than massaging your own e-penis(c) Raphie

I'm out. I'm not contributing anything more than this topic does.
