Crowd varies by DJ. You can more or less guess correctly which DJs bring in which type of people. I've been there when it's packed to and it wasn't bad cause the crowd was peaceful and the opposite is true as well. But wander around and whatnot you can almost always find a good spot or two. HIGHLY recommend going with a bigger group than a smaller one. This way you can form your own area and keep the ignorant randoms out. Even more true if you're bringing girls or short/smaller people. Be warned as are most places in Toronto it's a huge pickle party. Bad place to try and meet girls but at the same time it's good cause you can relax without giving a crap about what people think of you. Ie. who cares if Gino #492 from Woodbridge thinks you dance like a retard in your kicks and joggers.
DJs are mostly the well known mainstream ones (got a large capacity, gotta fill it somehow) but for some of all access events you'll get some smaller ones in there as well. Solid one-two punch if you can handle it is some mainstream cheese at guv then hit comfort zone for the far opposite end of spectrum. Toronto has some wicked locals, maybe a bit too much tech house if it's not your thing but all around they're good enough to show up before the main guys for.
For a large place the soundsystem is great. Some spots sound less than amazing but just wander till you find one you like. Their visuals and non-audio entertainment are top notch (dancers, lasers, strobes, spotlights, nitro cannons and all that jazz). Security are not ones to be fuct with but behave yourself and odds are they won't give you any probs, just remember at the end of the day they're there to protect you more than anything.
But like someone else said you gotta try it to see if it's your thing. There's really no reason not to go at least once and there's nothing to be afraid of so for the most part don't listen to the whiners who had a bad experience and scare everyone off. To sum up my general tips are:
-Go in a bigger group.
-Dress for comfort.
-Go for an all access event, provides you with way more variety and options to choose from.
-If you're from out of town or even just GTA outskirts it could be worth renting a room at the Westin, almost across the street and a couple minute walk from a nice LCBO.
-Once you're in wander like a fiend until you find your deal. If you ever get bored or aren't feeling it, wander some more cause odds are there's something better literally around the corner. |

| As already said, go check it out for yourself. But don't let your first experience dictate you're entire opinion. Different nights, different vibes. Give it a few goes and see how you like it ;) |

| Like any club, The Guvernment has it's good qualities and it's bad qualities. And as with any club, I would get sick of it if I went there all the time. I enjoy going to Guv every once in awhile. If I were you, if there's a DJ you want to see (or if you just want to check out the club), go see it for yourself. The sound system may not be as good as some other clubs, but the club itself is a site to see IMO. There's not many clubs where you can get 8 rooms playing all different music. |
