Commuter trains commute, road rage rages, movies move, people shop in shops, and someone's at home 'tidying up’. All the while the grasses wave and wind blows and airplanes and birds pass overhead, as we lie back and listen to the rhythms flowing through the trees down at Cherry Beach.
Bring a frisbee, bring a kite, bring a handy sweater, bring a dog (only nice dogs), bring your lover and a hammock. And pass the time this lazy sunny Sunday afternoon with friends and friends of friends.
Our 10th year, and the first Cherry Beach lineup of 2011...

This Party Runs On Contributions
Friends of ours will be working through the afternoon accepting contributions from everyone who comes out to enjoy. We ask for a $5, but you can give more if you like. Obviously we know a lot of artists and travelers with limited finances - $5 isn't a lot, but if you can't do it, then any amount you can afford. Or some help with the day picking up garbage or staying afterward for tear down and clean up.
Our Security Decisions
We decided 2 years ago that with our larger numbers we’d need some security to help with being our eyes and ears. We didn't like the idea at first, but as time went on we were very happy with how it didn't intrude on the fun atmosphere. Again this year we’ll be continuing with uniformed security. Remember, we've hired them as friends and partners, so they're there to keep the good times going. Their main jobs are to ensure that alcohol is not visible, that there are no hard drugs at all, and the dealing of that which comes along with them - dude, it's just not that kind of party. On a personal level, each one of us should consider ourselves ambassadors of Cherry Beach Sundays and lead by shining example. Cherry Beach Sundays are about friends, family and our children. If you’ve got other priorities, then skip hanging out with us.
Alcohol
We cannot allow any alcohol. This should be obvious, but over time we all get lax. Police make random visits, they must not see any. Some have felt that simply putting beer into a cup is a disappearing act. If you were a cop, you’d not be fooled. Also, if you dump your empties into the trash, the police are going to notice them there. Not ok.
Smoke Butts
We spend literally hours picking up butts after each Cherry Beach Sunday. Simply put, don’t do it. We’re not your butt bitches. Butts go in empty containers, trash cans, your pocket, whatever. Just not on the ground.
Location
It's still in the Cherry Beach area, but it's a bit further east, halfway to the Leslie Spit, right in front of the huge old hydro plant smokestack which you can see from miles around. The nearest washrooms and parking is slightly less than half a kilometre away (at the beach lot or beside the soccer fields), so you need to consider it like camping. Tip - ride your bike!
Driving - Take Lakeshore Blvd East just past Parliament. Turn south down Cherry Street all the way to the end. Then go east into the parking lot on your left. Walk along the bike path past the windsurfing club and yacht club and look for the massive smokestack… you'll hear music. A pleasant 10 minute walk.
Biking - Biking to Cherry Beach is easy along the trails beside the lake.
TTC - A bus goes from Union and Coxwell stations right to the parking lot area.
Taxi - The new spot is right along Unwin Ave off of Cherry Street, get them to drop you off at the huge smokestack.
Dodgy Weather
If the weather is looking dodgy, you can follow how things are going at http://twitter.com/cherrybeach or call David 416 550 2702 or Irving 416 902 1740 for an hourly updated voice message.
What to Bring
Remember to bring something warm to wear as the sun goes down, it can get chilly by the lake. Beach blanket, shades, repellant, sunscreen, lots of water, and something to share with your neighbours on the next blanket.

First time I made it to Cherry Beach this season and it was by far the busiest I've ever seen it! Music and vibe was great and I was really liking the visuals later on. Hope to make it back soon!

Hey. Does anyone know if this week's cherry beach party will be on Sunday, or Monday? I know with the other two holidays (Victoria Day & Labour Day), the parties are on the Monday, but I don't remember ever going on the Civic Day weekend.

Rule of thumb was that if Monday was a holiday they would do it on Monday instead of Sunday.
This year though things are getting a bit ed up (hence closing the last Sunday's party earlier than expected), so there might not even be one this weekend, but Monday is a good bet.
