hi there. Im having trouble figuring out what cable i need. Basically.. i hav the VESTAX PCV-275 and on the back panel it has 2 outputs. 1 of which is a straight forward phono, which i use to hook up to my hifi. But the other one labelled "master output" is different. The connections are much bigger. Its exactly the same as the headphone socket (ie. big jack) but there is a left and a right.
What i want to be able to do is use this output to hook up to my pc, so i can record directly to my computer. But i hav no idea what connection this is and am unable to find the rite cable to do this. Im scared and confused :nervous: please help me

if you can get hold of one of these things then you could do it no probs!
i have a small socket which lets you put 2 small jacks into one small jack input! it kinda has a single jack output on the end with 2 inputs for the small jacks! it basically lets you plug 2 small jacks into the same hole!
SJ SJ SJ = small jack input

dave i think i understand. But i dont think this is the cable i need :( Coz i hav 2 large jack outputs instead of 2 small ones. I dont think u can get these cables so i am curious to how other PCV-275 users record to there mixes. And if i were to use 2 adapters to turn the big jacks into small jacks the quality would be reduced drastically. |

Hey, those are 1/4 inch cables. they are used for hooking most kinds of pro audio equipment together. the exact same thing as RCA, except a different kind of connector.
you can either use and adapter (yes you will lose quality, but not much) or you can get 1/4 inch cables. sometimes they are also called TRS cables.
I got a pair of gold plated 6 foot ones, that are 1/4 inch on one side, and RCA on the other. these are perfect for hooking up to an amp.

ah mint this sounds what i need. So can i get the cable: 2 x 1/4 inch (preferably gold plated) at one end and a str8 foward Jack at the other end ??? and if so where can i get it from? ive checked my local hifi store and it aint there. Perhaps a place on the web?

| I'm not sure dude. I just walked into my local music store, said, "I need a quarter inch cable with RCAs on one end" and there it was, cost me like $10CAD |

if you're wanting to hook into your computer, then you'll want to use a record out or something like that ;)
use those master outs for your hifi system
you can get connectors that convert that 1/4 inch TRS into RCA
i use em all the time for djing, cause my amp has 1/4 inch inputs, and i slip the connnectors in and can use RCA's in from my mixer to my amp

i've seen little 1/4" to RCA adapters - small little things you just just drop in the 1/4" jack and poof you have RCA jacks.
1/4" are superior - i most cases, they are TRS (tip ring sleeve) balanced jacks that will cut down on hum on long cable runs... but you can take just the tip and sleeve and form an unbalanced signal that works with standard RCA jacks.
the levels should be the same.

i do the exact same thing
on my amp the only rca output jacks there are, are for Record out and i want to be able to control the output level
so i bought 2 adapters that look almost the exact same as a headphone jack (to convert it from the small size, say for a walkman, to the big size, for your mixer), but it converts from RCA to 1/4 inch
granted you will lose sound quality but it will be from the potential quality achievable from the 1/4 inch jack, however you won't be able to notice the difference anyways
i sure as hell can't
btw, i picked up the adapter thingies for about $1 CAN each |

I have two mini cables (for small headphone jacks etc) with some 1/4 adapters on the ends,
or you could buy an RCA cable and put the 1/4" adapters on one end
or you could buy 1/4 wires. The pro recording ones cost like $50 for afew feet EACH. I dunno how much better quality they actually are... |

for all realistic purposes, the signal quality is probably about the same - however, the pro cables are probably of a higher build quality. unless you plan on passing the cable on to your next of kin, there's no reason to waste $50 on them.. lol
