Anyone seen this in today's The Register?

quote:
BT is threatening to kick users of P2P applications off its broadband service, citing copyright abuse.

quote:
Last week, Reg reader Robert Brown received a letter from the BTBroadband abuse team accusing him of distributing copyrighted material via his account.

The full article is here:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/26674.html

Mr Brown seems to have been using KaZaA.

OK, this is BT Openwound, but how long before the other ISPs follow? There are no doubt many BTO customers here at TA, has anyone had similar experiences?

It's hard to tell where BTO are just rolling over and letting the EU them with their Corporate Welfare policies (main beneficiaries being the Recording Industry s of America and their European counterparts) or whether they find it a lovely way to reduce bandwidth consumption while being able to say "don't blame us, it's the law!".

A bit of both probably.

I'm temping at BTOW at the moment, and some guy who called today had, had his account ceased because of distributing copyright material. I didn't relaise it covered things like MP3s. Anyway we had a good laugh on the phone about how much BTOW suck:D and then I realised that the supervisors had been monitoring calls all day *gulp*

i think a similar thign happend to luke, i just hope that ntl dont do the gay 12 hour rule as my 2 housemates both use the same conection and beetween us id say we are online for at least 12 hours a day.

and are the bt broadband bit stopping these p2p programs becasue of copyright issuses or is their network not being able to cope with all the bandwidth?
