But at the same time i feel like my productions maturing suffer due to my practices.. how often do YOU make music? I also tend to make drums n process drums when nothing's really coming out.

StaY Up

wow, this sounds exactly like me, suffering in arrangement. production is the funnest thing i know of to do, so when it becomes anything less than totally fun i consider it work. truth is if i want a future making tracks for parties i'm gonna have to stop being such a stoner producer. gotta sit down and nail the less than thrilling, more laborious aspects of production.

if you feel like it's worth it to put that actual work into it, you should. if not, at least you're having fun and that might be all that matters in the end anyway. but the cool thing is if you happen to get really good at it and you make the party people feel good too, i guess that's the most ideal.

Do you have a wife?

Wife and kids who I adore. Spend loads of time with kids - never been away from them, always take them out - never had a meal with just wifey since they were born.

Wife does nag me about the music, but I just explain that David Attenborough (the most admired Man in the UK), spent years traveling the world making those nature documentaries, so by comparison I'm monly in the next room:D

@Richard, I've been hanging around at your soundcloud again and there's an awfull lot of must finish material on there. GTFO of TA and GTF on with making music. :).

I'm a very slow worker - and montioring sit makes it take way longer.
Plus I cannot be finnishing anything unless I think it has big potential and fits perfectcly with Divas brand.

I'm sure I will finnish the remix of Ghosttown though.

I see this ocean of new releases weekly and just think there is no point releasing things unless they have a good chance. I've yet to be happy with anything to be frank.

I watched a documentary about famous painters and quite a few of them took ages and only finished a minority of thier works.

Mad4brad (where is he btw?) said I'll never make it / don't have it, maybe he has a point:clown:

Almost everything on your soundcloud has a lot of potential imo. Great grooves and interesting hooks. Maybe a bit less time on the technical parts and more on the creative/completion parts? I'd love to see you finish the other things that do not fit the Diva's just as much, maybe even more. It's your choice to make of course :). Just wanted to put it out there.

Unfortunately I don't produce as often as I'd like. I take on too much work so instead of deciding on my own hours the hours decide that I should be working. I did produce an hour or so last night and it felt great. As always

That sucks cause if I go to work and its been a while since I last produced my brain will start obsessing about it over and over and over. Its almost like when you don't masturbate or have sex for too long you think about it more and more as the days pass by.

I need to develop better habits though cause my jobs starting to get fed up everytime I leave early to go home and produce. Other months I can't do that though depending on money and what not. Like these last 2 months I've only been getting in one day a week max and I ing hate it. I definitely get stressed out if I'm away from my music too long wonder if other people get like that.

I spend a lot of time deliberating on which direction to take, and very little time actually taking a direction. Instead of just sitting down and working I think about like.. how realistically there's no place for electronic dance music or parties or any of that in a post-collapse society, which as far as I can tell is where we are headed, fast. Hell, if the power goes out I'm no longer a musician, and everything I've worked for has been a waste of time. So it seems silly to put all of this effort into something that is inherently unsustainable and illusory. Things are moving so fast. I spend more time thinking about basic survival than some glamorous future in the EDM scene. Every moment I spend sitting on the computer, I envision the world outside turning towards the end of it's great cycle and I'm in here fiddling away on the computer as life passes me by.

On the other hand, I think I have a lot to offer music fans and wish I could put all of these self-imposed challenges behind me and just get my done. I wish I still had the enthusiasm and motivation from my youth. Every ing day is an existential crisis I swear. It's either I sit down in the studio and give everything I've got, or I start checking ebay to see if my gear would get me enough money for a plane ticket out of the ing hemisphere.

i've been spending atleast a couple hours a day doing something related to music. if i'm not practicing my sound design, i'm working on my mixing. if i'm not mixing then i'm working with a theory book... if i'm not reading/practicing theroy, then i'm actually writing something!

i've noticed i hardly every dj anymore... :(...

being single helps me enjoy, and concentrate on my music trip. i don't know if this is healthy or not... ;p

Long time no post! Glad to see storyteller's still here- Saw Cryo and Magnus floating around in another thread too! Glad you guys havn't all gotten too big to post here yet haha :p
Still check your soundcloud once in a while storyteller, still going strong man, love them tunes :)

I usually do a few hours a day still- Still definitely an obsession for me... I go through periods of no motivation, and negativity, but I've worked out a way to get around it which is pretty much to try new things. As it stands I have 3 aliases signed to a few labels covering techno/prog, prog-house/trance, and techno/psy-trance... I've also been working on a chillout/downtempo electronica album for the last year...

I go through big phases with all of these styles, for different periods at a time, sometimes i'll be in a techno mood for a week, or a psy mood for an hour, but I'm always in the mood for something.

I still love production because its so complex too, which suits my moods; when I'm feeling creative I work on arrangements, and melodies, but when I'm tired, or cbf, I'll crack into some mixing, or more 'boring' (imo) stuff like that...

I do go through dry patches where I'm really not feeling music at all, and I used to freak out, and worry I'd lost the touch or something, but it always goes away after a little while and I come back with fresh ears and some great new ideas (great for me, not necessarily ACTUALLY great :p )

anyways, glad to see some of you guys are still around, cheers.
