| Before you all jump the bandwagon, don't you think it would be wise to hear the other side of the argument? |

So aside from whatever you think of his musical talent this guy has really shown some morals when it comes to events and promoters. Since his NYE fiasco he's cancelled 2 gigs that I've heard about where he discovered promoters were working in cahoots with scalpers. One was a month ago and I forget deets but I believe it was in Europe. Then today he posted this on FB for his Canada Day gig in the Muskokas:
Good on him... Wish more artists (cheese or not cheese) used their clout to call out some of the shadier promoters in this industry. And we all know there's no shortage of them. The cancellation is impressive but the gig for free even more so. |
Hes only doing it because it will be bad for business in the future, not because he has a divinely guided sense of morality. Don't be such a fool. It's a dog eat dog world. Gotta outsmart the other's, and hes a smart 1 |

The 2 promotion companies for this were:
Hennessey Events
Uniq Lifestyle
There's no defense let alone response put forth by them after Avicii's accusation other than announcing the show was cancelled. I suggest if they want their side heard, they say it. Until then it's kind of hard but if you think about it there's likely a reason they're quiet...

Disagree. Artists let their shows get scalped all the time and it makes no difference to his wallet as his booking fee is set before tickets are even announced. But hell even if this is some new school business model he's inventing where he plays makeup shows for no money just to get rich (somehow??), I'm still applauding it. |

Regardless of whether or not it's a publicity stunt, he's still offering the free show, which a lot of artists wouldn't do. Big ups. |

Your could be right. It looks bad if gigs get cancelled. It makes the DJ look like a flop...like he has no pull, or they weren't selling any tickets. This used to happen a lot in the rave scene, DJs would get replaced.
Either way it's smart for him to do this - Toronto is an important market. |

This isn't a free show by any means though. The people going to the event still have to pay $22.50 for Production costs. I think a proper look at production costs would show there may be some money set aside for him.....since he is part of the production team. |

I think it's more than safe to say they shouldn't have dealt with these guys for bookings but it's all kind of hindsight now. The fact neither company does many large scale EDM bookings says something. But he's doing a makeup show and using Ink who he's had several bookings with so at least it shows he's righting wrongs and learning...
From what he's stated it sounds like to me he's waved his booking fee and the $22.50 goes to the venue and Ink for organising the show + selling tickets. That would make sense considering his original tickets were going for $60 presale. |

girl, he wasn't responsible for any of the refunds, the promoters were :\ a lot of ppl never saw their money again |
Oh I know he wasn't responsible for the refunds. I was just impressed with how the promoters stepped up after the fiasco and how it was handled...we got refunded all 4 tix (minus the service charges) within a week.
Sucks for those that never got a refund - I wonder why? |

there's a FB page about this but yeah
I think ppl also started purchasing the tickets for that make-up party, before it was announced as free, and I'm not 100% sure of those people were refunded either? |
