I know virtually nothing of your tastes so I'm going to take a minute and kind of shoot all over the place. ;)
Let's start with the giants:
Not much more to say than astounding conducting/playing. Contains his "Prague" symphony (No. 38), which I find to be his best work (for good reason too, there's even a Wiki article solely for his love of the city: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozart_and_Prague ).
All the recordings of this sort of have their ups and downs, but I like Jochum's take. Home to a wee piece of music called Symbolum Nicenum: Et in Spiritum Sanctum Dominum (bass): counterpoint graceful enough to make you tuck your junk between your legs and twirl like a ballerina in your bedroom.
(Forgive me for skipping Beethoven)
As for the piano, you can't go wrong with Sviatoslav Richter:
A whopping 15-disc set featuring works from Beethoven (who hogs up the first five ing discs :mad: ), Mussorgsky (drunkard who managed to seal his place amongst the greats before booze killed him), Haydn, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov (he plays Rachmaninov's music better than Rachmaninov!), etc.. I only mention this because Richter is God tier (practicing for 8+ hours a day for pretty much your entire life will tend to do that).
As for say a single disc, his playing of Schumann is pretty much the standard (this particular recording is flawless):
Yet for mystical/colorful/dreamy music (suitable for trance crackers :toothless ), Scriabin is the way to go!
