Cross Fader Question. Help.

Ok, I have a question about my cross fader.
Mixer I use = Vestax PCV-275.
I use the volumes & not the cross fader, since im using volumes and not the cross fader I have the phono in channel 1 & 2. My cross fader is all the way to the left although I heard the volume is level only if its in the middle? When its at the left im able to mix with both channels (1 & 2) just as if I was using the cross fader.
So my question is if channel 1 has more volume than channel 2 because its not in the middle or does it not matter?

| Well I am guessing it wouldnt matter as long as you compensate with the volume fader for each channel. Why don't you just leave the crossfader parked ion the middle and bring the incoming channel in with the volume fader tho? |

doesn't the 275 always use channels 1 and 3 on the x-fader, and channel 2 is always by the volume fader? if that's the case, having the x-fader all the way left would mean channel 1 at max, and 2 at whatever the volume fader is at

correct. he is doing the right thing.
the WRONG thing to do, would be to leave the fader in the middle and use channels 1 and 2.. because then channel 1 would be 3 to 6 DB below channel 2, because of the fader dip (not sure exactly what the curve is like on that mixer, but most are a 3-6 DB drop in the center of the fade)

so what ur saying is lets say im using channel 1 as cdj 2 as a tt and 3 as a cdj
if i'd mix from the cdj (1) 2 the tt (2) channel 1 would be louder? |

all i'm saying is that when the fader is in the center, there is a dip in the level of both faded channels (1 and 3) - the crossfader curve simply dips the levels so there can be a smooth mix...
if it did not, the signals would sum, and create a louder output when they are mixed together - to avoid this, most mixes cut the output of the channels based on the fader position. on some mixers, this is adjustable (that's the point of a crossfader curve adjustment, found on higher-end mixers)

Yea MERiDiAN5i2, I hav a good idea on what you are talking about.
Ok, so me having my TT's pluged into 1 & 2 channels and using those volumes for mixing with the crossfader to the lft works fine without there being a volume differentail? So I am doing it right?

yes :) because channel 1 is at the left side, when the crossfader is there, the signal is not modified. as you move the crossfader towards center, the signal from channel 1 is reduced, as the siganl from (the unused) channel 3 is mixed in...
so you should be just fine :)
