Need help. Serato or Traktor?

Hey guys! Haven't been on here in a while. Hope you all are well :)
I have a dj equipment dilema. I have a broken cdj. I never wanted to stray from playing actual discs, but as much as it hurts, I'm looking to move on to serato or traktor. I want to stay true to my tech house, tech prog, true prog routes, but I'm also looking at doing some mash-up gigs here in Phoenix. Apparently that's what they like here. Leaning toward serato even though I've always been against it. Please convince me one way or the other. Money is an issue. $500 is what I'm looking at to revamp my djing world. Also...if anyone has an idea on how much it might cost to replace a Mac Book Pro screen, let me know that too :)
Thanks guys! |

I used to want Serato, but now I've decided on Traktor, mainly because, I feel like I'm getting more, especially if I get TSP2, cause you are also getting the Traktor Pro 2 software.
Just my 2 cents. |

| $500 isn't gonna get you a whole lot unless you wanna continue with your CDJs as controllers. |

You can always use Serato. The software is free and most of the time, the club already has a box or Rane mixer. If you're just going to play mash-ups anyway.
But if you're serious about being more creative, go with Traktor. |

They're different animals that get the job done. I own and use both, but if you're going for the mainstream, I would go for Serato. It's everywhere. Serato is a lot easier to use as well plus it lets you mix videos. That's key for the mainstream crowd. Video is huge!
Another advantage that Serato has over Traktor is the ease of use. It's very easy to use with little to no configuration needed. Traktor on the other hand, it has a learning curve and it requires you to do a lot more to get it to work right. Traktor however, does have awesome effects and the loop recorder.
In all honesty, my Audio 8 is pretty much sitting in my studio collecting dust. Why? Because most venues I play at have some form of Serato installed.
Don't get me wrong, they're both really good, but I'm still using Serato more than Traktor. |

| Traktor, you're paying for a more advanced/sophisticated software. Plus Traktor 2 is pretty god damn amazing, I'm getting a new laptop for it. |

| That's all pretty much what I figured. If I was just playing edm clubs like I used to there would be no question. I wouldn't really want to use Serato for that, but it makes more sense for the mash-up mainstream stuff. Man, If I could just afford to fix or get a new cdj and get serato. I still have no problem sticking with cds for edm club gigs here or in LA. I assume with Traktor I would need a sound card as well right? I believe Serato has the hardware included. |

It all depends on which flavor of Traktor you buy. If you buy Traktor Scratch Pro or Traktor Scratch Duo, they both come with soundcards. Traktor Scratch Pro is cheap, but you get a slimed down version of the software. Which, for Top 40 stuff, it isn't bad at all. |

Scratch Duo is the trimmed down cheaper option that comes with a smaller (less ins/outs but same internal hardware) soundcard (basically a lot closer to the functionality of Serato), Pro is the big boy multi-deck thing.
There's also Traktor Scratch LE, even simpler than the Duo (less effects). |

I used to use that when I was doing a live broadcast radio show.
I'd say Traktor... but then I'm looking at buying the Kontrol S4 so...
Personally, I hate Serato's layout and the way its organized. |
