Lol, I actually took it upon myself to create an account after reading and being able to relate to us thread. Here in Fl. ALL they care about is rap and rock music. Especially rap. Sometimes my friends annoy me with that . They tell me I like "techno" when I feel I feel I just take a more open-minded approach to the music enjoy

Here in Brazil, Psy-Trance is well known, specially on raves.

But the classic Trance as we know almost does not exist here. Unfortunately, Eletro and Tech-House dominates the club scene :(

I'm not sure what part of Florida you live in, or what your age is but there is a lot of edm in central and south Florida and has been for two decades. I have been going to these type of events since 94. Let me show you some events that just happened or are happening in the next month. The massive, EDC was a couple weeks ago in Orlando and Summer Sound 3 day house music festival was at Jacksons in Tampa. Last week, BT was at the Venue in St. Pete. This weekend, Infected Mushroom is at House of Blues in Orlando on Saturday night, along with The Ahzz 20 yr reunion on Saturday. Next week in Miami, Sean Tyas, Sid Van Riel, Kaeno & John o Callaghan at Dream. Markus Schulz is at Space the following week, Cosmic Gate is in St. Pete July 2, Ronski Speed & Ashley Wallbridge at Grand Central Miami two weeks after that. This is all within 1 month. Leave your friends that annoy you behind, and come out and support some of these events. You will probably meet people who also take a more open-minded approach to the music they enjoy

I find the same problem here.... Trance just isn't mainstream. Of the mainstream radio stations you maybe get a maximum of an hour a week of trance, and that's at some god forsaken time in the morning.

You say so someone "I like Trance" and yeh - it's either "you like what?!" or "ha - you're gay" or, for the few that have heard something about it you get "ooh - Tiesto!!!" -.- ... so they you go "ferry corsten, aly & fila, armin van burren" and they're like "eh?"

But you play someone some trance, some of the emotional, high energy climaxing songs and people love it... because trance is beauty, emotion and feeling... but its not considered 'cool'. It's all "Yar mayte - ya herd dat new dubstep mix by flux pavillion innit", and for the rest its some emo screamo crap that they're going on about, half of which can hardly be called music - i prefer to think of it as white noise ;)

Having said that, if you play someone a stream of epic songs (yes you often do have to go towards the more popular ones) and really make them listen... couple it with some awesome imagery (like on all the youtube tracks ;) ) and, you may find you can convert some people. You just have to make people appreciate what it is. But that takes time.

But do we want trance to become over commercial? As has already been mentioned, it should stay underground (imo). Otherwise it will lose its true magic and turn into the other junk that you hear on the radio everyday.

I knew signing up for this website would prove to be useful. I've never been to a concert before much less a trance concert but always felt that time would eventually happen. I'm in Jax, only a couple of hours from Orlando. I used to go there all the time. Thanks a bunch for the info. I'm definitely gonna see about makin' it to one of these

Alright, so I guess Trance is a Europe only thing. In America? Nah, not so much. People here either don't know it, hate it, lack the knowledge of differences between any EDM, or very few like it.

I'm like 1% out of the rest of the 99% that appreciate and enjoy Trance. Everybody else enjoys Top 40 cheese. They even say "Omgawd! Lil Wayne's latest songs sounds like Tranceeee!" when really, it's just a few lame cheesy synths thrown in

people claim they are Trance listeners. This is kind of an thing of me to do, but when my friends claim they are Trance listeners, I ask them "if you listen to Trance, what kind of Trance do you listen to?"

"Oh, I love AFROJACK and SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA!!!"

I'm just like... No, that's not Trance... then they respond with "omg whatever it's the same thing. Show me what Trance is then!"

I play Resistance D - Cosmic Love or if I wanna go more mainstream I play Sparkles. They hated it because it was "not catchy, not exciting, sounds boring" They have no clue, so I pull out another "Better off Alone" and they start swagging their excitement saying "Oh I love this! Classiccccc!"

so yeah that's my story. do people in your area listen to Trance or do you find yourself a minority as well?

edit: sometimes it literally annoys me when they say they like Trance because of Benny Benassi, Rusko, Dubstep, or something.

Where in san jose you live? I live on da southside.

Ya man, it's hard to go to a club or decent bar in Orlando and NOT hear electronic music. The only places that play rock and rap is Wall Street and little hole in the wall places. Vintage, Suite B, Sky 60, Sky 180, Boss, etc all play house/techno/trance/dubstep. The list is far more extensive than that mind you...

i agree, EDM is pretty strong in orlando, tampa, and south florida and has been for years, especially in south florida. EDM is exponentially more popular in Tallahassee now than it was 5 years ago. Although not fans of either of these djs, diplo and aoki have been there recently. Benassi will be in both tallahassee and gainsville at the end june.

32Valverom, I can see why you would think EDM doesnt get played in Florida though. I will be moving to Jax in july and have been warned its hard to come by. You guys seem to get the occasional small show though and what seems to be a stead stream of dubstep shows which im not really looking forward to.

back on topic for this thread though, in my experience, I havent really heard people refer to any EDM as trance...at least not anymore. It seems to move in cycles as far as what the generalized term for EDM is. You used to hear everyone call it techno and for a couple years trance, now people call all EDM HOUSE. just wait until everyone starts calling all EDM dubstep.

That's cool. I thought most places in Orlando were Latin clubs. I guess here in Jax majority is either redneck or ghetto.

I honestly don't even hear THAT much of any shows happening over here. I guess it's because my group of friends are mostly gangsta/ wangsta type bozos. I'm currently the only one I know who listens to any type of edm. But, whatever. I'm glad to be apart of this site now

Do yourself a favor and get out of Jacksonville for a night this weekend. Take a road trip on Saturday to the House of Blues in Orlando. Infected Mushroom live, along with Randy Seidman, Suzy Solar and Cyberian Soundz, is an all ages event that would be a heck of a first concert to attend.
