New producer - opinions on my song?

I'm pretty new to music production(including trance) but I've been learning Reason over the past few months and after plenty of failed attempts I've come up with this. Tell me what you think, good, bad, or otherwise, I'm always looking for ways to improve. Thanks in advance!

These are very old sounding samples you are using. Get some more modern ones and keep trying ;)
Eracen
Not samples, made all the synths etc. myself :P

sounds like you followed a boy in a band's tutorial...and even ripped off that initial melody...

1:28 is pretty horrendous in terms of mids/highs...and I shut it off there...(A boy in a band's mix sounds decent though, so maybe invest in some monitors for yourself)

C- for effort, F for mix, F for blatant theft of melody.

Eracen
Of course I did, it's my first song and he does some great tutorials. It's not like I'm selling it, I don't see how it's not a good starting point...

I was just looking for some advice to improve, oh well.

Edit: That is, to say, the above isn't advice. I already acknowledged that part could use some EQ(see comments on track) Not mad, just saying.

Wasn't trying to be too harsh man...Just that...well, sometimes your own ideas are the best ideas.

Best advice is to invest in some studio monitors. Having converted to studio monitors, I must say, they're worth it if you plan on making music. You don't need to drop 1,000's of dollars either...and can pick up a solid pair for 300-400 bucks. (less if you get lucky on ebay)

And I still stand by my opinion that it's your first attempt => First impression...why not try something original that fits you, instead of a tutorial copy-pasta.

My first post got flamed down fairly hard. The mix was bad (it's still on my soundcloud) but it was my own idea...So I suppose it's personal opinion.

Anyway, don't let any postings discourage you...Go make something that's "you" and post that up!

I'll look into the monitors, and well, it's my first trance song I guess. On the soundcloud below this track is a previous song, made that 100% myself but it wasn't really something to post imo.

Why not?

Synths sounded a little cheap, kind of like they came from some vst freeware or something...DEFINITELY needs some mastering.
The saw @ 1:10 was a bit loud and then the strings just about busted my ear. :P The drums are also way too low, the instruments almost railroad them completely. For this type of track, you might want to use a more punchy kick as well. Vengeance Essential Club Sounds packs have some great samples.
An alright track, but DEFINITELY work on the volume & sounds.

Alright. Thanks for the advice! Sounds so different on headphones xD

Maor Levi did his first major tracks with freeware VSTs. Any VST can sound cheesy. Any synth can sound cheesy. It's all about application. Will check this track later though when I get home.

Like mentioned, getcha some new packs. Slap some chorus on that higher octave lead sound you have, it will widen it and make it sound better. Maybe like 15% delay, touch of reverb, would make it fit better in the mix, small things like that help a lot. Mixing is really off. Just lower all your channels all the way, and slowly bring them up.
Looks like you're getting the hang of things pretty well, so just keep an open mind and work really hard and you should be on your way.
