Right from the beginning when I was introduced to trance, I was exposed to both Ferry's and Tiësto's remix of Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings OP 11" and I definitely preferred Ferry's version.
That's a good sign, but that's not when Tiësto was/were producing good stuff.
The appeal of Tiësto comes from his/their great mix compilations like Magik (1-6) and In Search Of Sunrise (1-3).
In My Memory was a decent album as well. There's also the stuff like this:
edit: I could probably have included Sparkles and like that as well, but I was just trying to show a different Tiësto than the post-2002 stuff.

IMO, I think all Adagio For String's are cheesy. I try to listen to it but it sounds too overrated.
Tiesto played his version of Adagio for Strings live but I didn't enjoy it that much, everybody else went insane though.
I heard Ferry's and I actually kind of like his more. Just my opinions though.
For some reason I don't like Flight 643 though, am I crazy?
I still love his remix of Destination Sunshine to this day :)

You don't like it because it's cookie-cutter crap.
The Balearic Bill remix is quite good, as are a few of his other remixes and productions. He did some fantastic mixes back in the day, too. Hasn't done anything memorable since ISOS:3 though.

How is Flight 643 "cookie-cutter"? Don't get me wrong, that track annoys the piss out of me and always did, but even at the time there weren't too many tracks that sounded like it. It's one of Tiesto's techiest tracks, along with Lethal Industry, and it's actually a very rare example of a club record that attempts to connote an external concept - the wall-of-noise breakdown is supposed to represent flying through turbulence, and the record's fidgety, restless sound seems to sum up air travel pretty well.
It had a strong remix suite, as well - Quivver did it in dreamy prog, Orkidea did a flowing acid trance mix and Oliver Lieb took it even further down the banging, techy route. I also admit I still enjoy the Oliver Klein mix with the vocals added even though you used to get murdered on TA around 2003/4 if you admitted liking the vocal version.
(I don't have any headphones right now, so I've no idea how good the sound quality is on this video.)

I think Oliver Lieb's Dub mix of Love's On Fire (Flight 643) is the best version. :) [couldn't find the dub mix, so posting the vocal one instead]
