For those of you interested in checking out what the rave scene was like in Northern Cali in 1999, peep this! :D

During the late 1990s, the Oakland International Trade Center - located behind a Home Base retail store in Oakland, California - was transformed into the International [R]a[v]e Center until the City Council decided to discontinue rave permits and shut down all the warehouses that were being used to host these parties. A few years after the ban of raves, Home Base went out of business and then in 2005, the entire building mysteriously caught on fire and crumbled. This is footage from the night that Home Base collapsed in flames, and from Quest 11/13/99 - the second-to-last rave ever held there. The shots aren't great, I admit, but they capture the heart of the Bay Area rave scene during fall 1999 - the end of a beautiful era in the history of West Coast electronic dance culture. It was certainly the most influential and rewarding year of my youth! |

Even though I was in LA back then, our parties were very similar. Ah memories. Thanks for the video.
Anyone know the song at 11:42 to 12:26? |

| Before my time, but I did visit the old Homebase venue during the winter of 2005, after it suffered fire damage. Building was demolished a little while after. I don't think anything has been built over it yet. |

Homebase was cool because it was huge.
I was personally a fan of 2nd and Jackson in Jack London Square. All the n00bs went to Homebase while all the "veteran" ravers went 2nd and Jackson.
while living back in the bay, I lived 2 blocks from that spot. Really funny feeling walking past it everyday knowing i was cracked the out on the sidewalks after the parties there. |
