going to bali a week, you all have any helpful hints or pointers? where to party, what to do? any helpful hints would be nice.
staying in ubud for a few nights then seminak for a week.

I was just there to play one of the biggest clubs there, Doublesix 24 year anniversary. was really great. however the club is pretty slow these days and they are closing it in September.
they do have some bigger headliners coming through once in a while so you might wanna check on the clubs web page for line up.
Ubud is really nice, its up by the mountains and its really nice. lots of arts and crafts to check out there. very relaxing area. they also have the 'monkey' forest there, where u can feed wild monkey some bananas etc and they will climb on your head lol.
Seminayk and Kuta is the tourist beach and party area. lots of Australians on vacation there. there is a ton of bars and restaurants. I played at a cool outside lounge called Cocoon, which is next to Doublesix. really good food there too. bit pricey for bali standards but its pretty chill. Good party there on the weekends.
Rent a scooter, its the easiest way to get around on the beach. Traffic is crazy so be careful driving around, its pretty nuts.
There is a really cool white water rafting, about a 10km river. you stop along the way and drink bintang beer (pretty good) and hang out. really nice scenery out in the jungle. I did scuba diving too one time i was there back at NYE, which was really amazing too. Better the the barrier reef actually.
anyway, hope that helps.. Dont drink the tap water!! lots of foreigners get sick there, their water is and if you go to cheaper place to eat, they might have used tap water for making ice. so if its crushed ice, not cube, reject it.

hey man you're lucky we have a few Indonesian in this forum, or else you won't be getting any helpful hints as you're going to Bali :)
well I hope to give you as much advice as possible. I just went to Bali myself last year and it was a wonderful experience.
so, where to party? In my opinion, night life is happening the most at Kuta, about 10-15 mins south of Seminyak of where you will be staying. Seminyak has newer and bigger resorts/hotels, I heard there are some good lounge that plays EDM music but I have never got the chance to explore Seminyak myself. Most of the lounges/clubs in Seminyak are inside of the hotels.
Whereas in Kuta, you pretty much go bar hoping in the Legian street. Legian is a long busy street where you can just walk at night (or even rent a motorcycle for cheap), eat late night food/seafood, hop in from one bar to the other.. people are partying like crazy there, foam party, pool party with bunch of lasers show, you name it! usually no cover charge but even though there is, it should be cheap & reasonable.
Take a taxi from Seminyak to visit Kuta for a night, and enjoy the night life there.
During the day, there are activities like water sports along the beach, snorkling, scuba diving, para ceiling, water skiing.. and remember to ask for LOCAL PRICE! Always always haggle! ask for lower price and act like you're not interested if they won't lower the price! I usually haggle about 60-70% off the regular price, meaning if they offer you $10 for a shirt, ask to get it for $3-$4!!
This applies to EVERYTHING except FOOD!
If you're into the Hindu's Temples (Pura), there are many many temples that are worth of visiting. There is one that you can see Bali traditional dance while looking at the Sunset on top of the cliff, there's also another temple in the middle of a lake... but most of these temples require a long drive (1-2 hours). I think there's one very close to Ubud but I'm not sure.
Ubud is known for their sterling silver. You'll find good souvenirs to bring back to the state, and remember also to haggle for a good price.
Well let me see what other tips I can give you... ooh, if you're into psychedelic trip, you can def order some shroom off the bar at Kuta.. Bali is known for their shroom (even though it's kinda like semi-legal), they grow most of them during rainy season ;) Other than that, 'everything' else is imported and they dont come as good as the stuff we have here if u kno what i mean
Beer, hmm, try Beer Bintang it's our famous beer, but for me it tastes just like Heineken. It's very cheap though, i think you can get a bottle for $1?
Well, I hope you'll enjoy your trip, I wish I can go to Bali again soon! Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to ask :)

That is TRUE! Remember Bali is part of Indonesia which is a third-world country. Avoid CRUSHED ICE at all times!

We honeymooned in Bali. Great place. Some good advice given above.
We did a day trip to a smaller island on a catteraman(sp?) that was pretty fun.
you can surf at kuta and the scuba is world class in bali.

haven't posted in this forum for awhile since i left CA... now living in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, 1 1/2 hour flight away from Bali :D
I could say that the advice given by Bjorn and Able.h above are great! Bjorn is a Bali expert since he's been back there lots over the last few years, and Able.h is from Indonesia and have done Bali quite the 'fun' way!
My wife is Japanese so she doesn't have quite the 'trooper' indonesian stomach as I have, but she survived the last couple trips there fine because she stick to bottled waters! =). The island is beautiful and the people are very friendly.
Couple of advices i have... rent a scooter! it is the most fun and cheapest way to get around the island. Get a private villa with a private pool in Seminyak Area... Bali is not known for their beaches, the water's not blue like you saw in pictures (my wife's quite dissapointed at this because she was expecting blue water haha), but it has million other things that will keep youinterested while on the island. Take a day trip to Ubud area, see the temples north of the island (the Pura - in Balinese language). Or for fun in the water go to Tanjung Benoa area where you can do lots of fun ocean activities.
