| I have sound blaster audigy and it supports eax sound. What I want to know is how to use this eax sound to make your gaming experience better :P.. I have tried selecting the eax mode and click the gaming tab . I find the sound gets louder and clearer but it has a huge echo to it. If this is what the eax sound is suppose to sound like ,then I dont think I like it. Any information you can give me I would appreciate it.. websites, help nubmers :P thanks |

I'm just posting because I've got to tell you something: you're asking it in the wrong session (try at the chill-out room) ;) |

EAX sound is all about multi speaker systems and sound enchancement..i was thinking the same thing a couple of months ago and found out that eax sound in games gives depth and helps a lot in surround sound. The eax enchancement(lite, normal) adds more effect and echo too.I liked that in wolfenstein but it can be annoying. In order to get your eax working completely u have to get games that support it,like Warcraft III(really cool) and Soldier of Fortune II.
Anything else,just ask.

Ok EAX is a creative technology that was competing with aureals A3D sound technology way back in the day but aureal went bust and sold out to creative so now theres EAX and thats it. See the Sounblaster Emu10k1 processor on board the sound blaster live and audigy cards is an incredibly powerful processor. Creative owns Emu who make professional Audio equiqment for real time use and so creative puts the same processor from their pro synths into the audigy. What this means is that with any audio streams the audigy can put real time effects like reverberations, echos, flanging, just about any effect you can imagine. It's pretty cool right?
So what EAX is, it's for the game developers to implement in a game so if you're playing a game like counter-strike for instance well when they implement the EAX they just basically tell the audigy when in room X reverb 3, occlusion 2, yada yada yada or if outside turn echos on and reverb off to whatever the games sound is see?
it's a very easy way to create realistic effects for games. Cos if you think about it if you were in an environment like that there would be echos and different sounds like that. The sad thing is that A3D was a better technology, see EAX has only got so many presets and different tags to use where as A3D would actually measure the "physics" of the game world you were in look at how far away you are from everything etc and adjust the audio to match which is much more realistic. Just one catch though folks - it used huge amounds of CPU to do it and well no-one liked that and creative marketed EAX better so there u have it. We're stuck with EAX now whether we like it or not |
