I can't believe this question is still being asked :(
people who spin cd ( the small djs like us ) do it for money reasons ( with the added help of being able to play rare tracks )
if you want to be serious about mixing, go vinyl , off course you need the money :p |

| I've got CD decks for a month and I've only used them twice cos I just love using vinyl to much. Be warned if you do start using vinyl it is very very addictive. |

both actually....i've got two vinyl players and two cd players...
before, i was only using cd's but after joining TA.com i started to use a little bit vinyl too...now the only reasion i have cd players for is those tracks that's not released on vinyl or not released at all:tongue3 anyway we all need one cd player for unreleased tracks.
the only time i use a burned cd is when i haven't got to buy the single, OR that it is not released, as i said...

Being a Dj that started out Dj'ing as a hobbie & having a huge CD collection, I started out using CD's. After learning the basics of beat matching & mixing with CD's, I then started a collecting vast amounts of vinyl. When I finally got 1200's, playing vinyl was a snap!
There's pro's & con's to both formats...
Although I prefer vinyl & use it as much as I possibly can, I do use both formats. For a Dj to only use one format, in my mind, limits the Dj.
There are some tracks that you can only find on vinyl and the same can be said for CD too. As well, certin remixes are sometimes only available on either format. Because of that I am currently in both a record and a CD pool.
There are times where vinyl is just not practical, such as a social/mobile event or club where the music format is Top 40/Urban/Other. Again, CD's are problably not practical for a Dj that plays large scale events such as raves, underground clubs/events, ect.
Just my $0.02 worth :)

If you think vinyl has superior sound quality you're insane:haha:
I've got vinyl but would love to get my hands on a CDJ1000.
I think if you're mixing trance, CD's are just as good but of course you won't have the image and cool factor that comes with being a vinyl DJ. |
