Ok so I bought two of these:

And a Stereo Minijack to 2 x RCA (Phono) cable:

With the intent to use with my laptop and just plug into my headphone jack. However I don't understand how to connect this to both speakers (left and right). The red and white cord ends simply are not long enough. Am I missing something? |

what you needed was that male 1/8'' to go to 2 male 1/4''. if you don't want to get another cord you can always buy 2 RCA to 1/4'' adapters. |

No you ing don't!
jekl is talking rubbish.
The JBL's also have unbalanced RCA inputs on them.
So take your cable, and pull the RCA away from each other to make the split wider. Plug the Red one in to the right and white in to the left.
Job done. |

You sir are a ing god! ;)
So how do you make the speakers completely balanced?
And what's the best positioning? |

Lol when he said the ends weren't long enough I pictured him trying to stick the rca into a 1/4" jack. My bad. |

dont you need a power amplifier to do that? |

Well you can start by using balanced cables into the balanced plugs of the speakers (either XLR or TRS)... You are using RCA which are by nature unbalanced.
You only really need balanced if you are getting extra static and noise issues. |

The signal goes down the chunky bits - they're just glued together in the middle.
Music production and DJing are both 90% technical and 10% creative... it's really worth taking time to understand about audio signals, how they're carried, signal paths and at least the very basics of audio electronics! |

Couldn't agree more. It's always fun to see people buying midi cables for their first synth and then they don't understand why they're not hearing it's sound. You did your research well before spending that $, didn't you? |
