Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and music production but I love the trance music and wanted to share my track that I created in Logic. You guys are more than welcome to download it and preview at http://www.soundcloud.com/djpaulazizeh. It's a first production but I would like opinions and criticism on the track so I can get better at production. I'm also doing an online class on point blank online studying music theory and production.

Thanks guys

Paul

hello & welcome!

the kick and bass are conflicting a bit in frequency realms, consider some slight sidechaining on the bass (doesn't have to be noticeable, but since it's a subby kick ((and a nice kick at that)), it'll make a difference). sounds as though moments have either been over compressed or, like at 1:32 or so, the crash that hits, everything else seems to duck under it, which I presume isn't the desired effect). The acid-esque synth hits could be punchier in the mid range--I imagine you'd like them to really cut through the mix? right now they're really receded in comparison to the hats (you may have compensated in either eqing or levels? because of the reverb on the hats, makes them bleed over things..)

the breakdown is begging for some more lows (the string pad could really be enhanced by this...everything sounds like, and it may not be, as thought it's happening from 500htz+). as for the chords themselves, they're good--they're a very welcome change up, and I think you're pushing it as far as how long the intro is, but thats a matter or taste. when the chords come in for the 'climax' of the track, they stand out, which I'm sure is the desired effect, and the bass under it gives a good driving effect, comes off as sounding pretty dark, which is cool. the chords, however, sound too removed from the rest of the mix, as though you've taken too much care in making them stand out--they almost sound like they've been mixed in an entirely different track. consider looping that over and over again, and doing subtle tweaks on the eq rather than harsh ones...remember it's better to subtract than add when it comes to mixing; subtlety is key.

all of that is meant to be constructive--good early effort

Thank you psymon.d for the response. I appreciate the feedback very much. I'm not sure what all that means but I know I'll get there. I know I've a lot to learn about production so I figured this would be the perfect place for it. How do you embed the player into posts?

Again, I really do appreciate the feedback. Do you have an IM name? I have an MSN name of [email protected], maybe we could chat more.

Thank you

Paul
